Tomb Raider 2 Will Be Directed By Lovecraft Country Showrunner Misha Green
Green will write and direct the sequel to 2018's Tomb Raider movie
The Tomb Raider movie sequel has a new director. It's been reported by Deadline that Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green has been hired to write and direct the sequel to 2018's Tomb Raider.
The film doesn't currently have a confirmed release date. It was initially scheduled for March 2021, with production expected to happen in 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Green will replace director Ben Wheatley, who was attached to the movie in 2019 but has since been announced as the director of The Meg 2.
The Tomb Raider sequel will once more star Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. The 2018 movie was based on the current video game series and made $275 million at the worldwide box office. In his review, GameSpot's Michael Rougeau called it "a pretty good action movie and a better than average video game adaptation," citing "smart story choices and a winning performance from Alicia Vikander."
Green wrote or co-wrote every episode of Lovecraft Country as well directing Episode 8 of the series. The show was based on Matt Ruff's 2016 novel of the same title and aired on HBO between August and October last year.
