Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that its free DLC promotion for the 2014 blockbuster shooter Titanfall has no time restrictions, with all three expansions free to download forever.

Titanfall's trio of expansions--Expedition, Frontier's Edge, and IMC Rising--usually cost $10 each in the US and £7 each in the UK.

The announcement to offer the content for free was partly to mark the game's one-year anniversary. Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella has published a blog post thanking fans for their support of Titanfall throughout its first twelve months on the market.

But it was not clear how long the promotion would last, until on Friday, when the game's official Twitter account wrote: "This content is free starting now and will remain free for all users who purchase Titanfall for Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC."

Titanfall was pitched by Microsoft as one of the Xbox One's first major console exclusives. GameSpot's Titanfall review was laced with praise, describing Respawn's debut shooter as "a game that combines the vibrant and new with the tried and true to create something special."

On Thursday, Zampella also confirmed that his team is now working on the Titanfall 2 project.

"I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don't know anything about it, or… yeah. So we're working on a sequel," he said.

"No official name yet, but we're working on that. That's the main focus but we're starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It'll be multiplatform."

It means that the successor to Titanfall will almost certainly ship on PlayStation 4 as well as Xbox One, and likely on PC too. The original launched as an Xbox console exclusive.

Zampella, who is credited with helping shape the Modern Warfare series when he headed up Infinity ward, appeared to be unsure about whether the sequel will introduce a more robust single-player campaign.

"I wouldn't have done it differently," Zampella said reflecting on original's multiplayer-only approach.

"I think that's a fantastic way to do it," he said. "I think having the maps like that in packs, it does split the community and it makes it harder for matchmaking, it's messy. Yeah. I don't know we won't do it again, I can't say that for sure, but the idea would be to do something different."

"on a supported platforms"? doesn't anyone proofread these articles? lol

This is awesome news. I'll finally download them now! ^_^ I've had TF for a few months now and wanted the DLC but thought that paying $36 for all of the DLC was a little expensive. Now I don't have to.

Guess I'll actually buy it on sale now.

Helps to pump life in to a game I love, I have no issue that I paid for the dlc. I got the game in a bundle, pretty much free, and the dlc in a sale so I'm happy, and I'm sure those that paid full wack for both are glad to have the the servers filling up because of the free dlc. After all they've been playing much longer, some weekender noobs hopping on free dlc isn't going to be an issue.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I expect to see in 6 months this comment of yours in a Sony article(if not,you are a troII):
Fcuk you Sony,i payed fcuking $60 for The Order fot that QTE battles and now its on fcuking sale on PSN for fcuking $10.

Avatar image for Verenti

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I don't have a Xbox One or a PS4, and I didn't buy the Order (or more importantly, I didn't buy the order and the season pass.) Why would not complaining about a game that looked like shit from the get-go make me a troll? I paid like $100 for a game that, about a year after launch, gave away all of the expansion content. I'm not complaining that you can buy the game for like $20. That's the PC economy. But three $15 expansions for free? I bought up front to get the better deal, not to get the substantially worse deal, but a little bit earlier. If they had said out of the gate that all of the expansions would have been free, no one would ever have paid for them.

This was a fantastic Gesture, really pumped life back into the X1 Version

Avatar image for silpheedx

The X1 version was never dead. Plenty of people were playing it even before this.

welp guess it's time to buy titanfall lol

Avatar image for dante9006

I only payed $12.50 for it with all the DLC on Black Friday. Idk how I feel about my purchase now. Regardless I didn't waist much money anyways.

Nearly made it to the end of the subtitle that time.

Shame I was the stupid one whom spent money on that stuff.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Same here, this game was my biggest disappointing video game purchase of my life. And worse was the DLC.

Avatar image for davem1992

So yeah, this game was a flop and a piece of overhyped garbage.

Who would've thought that the worst fanbase would hype up such trash?

Avatar image for 6t4gp

<< LINK REMOVED >> How is it a flop when it was a new IP that was multi-player only and it Sold more than Infamous SS that was the third in a "popular" IP that had a much larger installed base? Than wouldn't that make Infamous SS a bigger flop?

Avatar image for davem1992

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Did I say inFamous wasn't a flop?

You Bots assume that just because I don't like this game that I think PS4 is alot better.

I think the Xbox One is better, not saying much but I do.

Wonder how you'll make me laugh next

Also inFamous is part of a far less loved genre, Bots hype up sh!t games cause they see a multiplat as exclusive and just NEED it.

Avatar image for 6t4gp

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> No that was not my point. My point is people are quick to call Titan Fall a flop and look past how badly an game that a equally hyped before launch did. and calling Infamous "less loved genre" is a joke and make me laugh because it was loved enough to make 3 and they will probably make number 4. Did you go on the Infamous SS thread and talk about how much a flop Infamous SS was? I didn't because I didn't care.

The thing that makes me laugh is how much you care about Titan Fall that you had to come over here and talk about it. The other thing that makes me laugh is how people with PS4( and a lot that don't have it yet.) act like anyone can't just walk in to the store or go online and buy a PS4 if they want. It's not hard to find. It's everywhere. I haven't bought a PS4 for a simple reason. Not because I'm a "bot" as you call people as if that so clever it's because PS4 has no exclusives that I want. Infamous SS, Drive Club, The Order, Bloodbourne, etc.. None of them appeal to me. It's that simple. Not hate for PlayStation because I still have a PS3 and not price because I just bought a CPU for my gaming rig that cost more than a PS4 and that is not even including the Motherboard because I switch from AMD to Intel i7.

Why do you care so much? Does it make you feel like your in the exclusive "cool kid club". But, it's not anyone can join if they want and you are a terrible recruiter for your team. People like you are another reason I have been on the fence. I game online a lot and if I get a PS4 I will have to interact with people like you. I gaming is supposed to be about fun and people like you seem like no fun.

Avatar image for davem1992

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> All this defensive over a bad game, what sickens me is that whenever I use my Xbox One I have to interact with the biggest cretins on the planet.

I couldn't care less what you own and what you play, I love my Xbox One, PS4, PC and WiiU.

This however was a garbage game that got love from a fanbase that will support ANYTHING that isn't on a PS system because they're cretins.

I can be alot of fun, just not to Xbox fanbrats.

Avatar image for 6t4gp

What I don't understand is your need for all the name calling. Because you don't like game doesn't make it bad. I didn't care for god of war or kingdom hearts buy, that doesn't make it a bad game just not for me. Are you capable have have a civil and mature conversation without name calling?

Avatar image for davem1992

<< LINK REMOVED >> Oh I am, I just hate being plastered in with a terrible community and being treated as if gaming with me or chatting with me are bad things.

Avatar image for blackace

The game was great and scored well by many journalist. You biased fanboys were mad because it wasn't on the PS4. I bet you'll be praising the sequel. I'll continue to play this game until the sequel is released. Hopefully they will use DX12 and the full Cloud tech this time. It'll make the XB1 the best console version. I believe Titanfall was the first XB1 game to hit 1 million sold.

Avatar image for davem1992

<< LINK REMOVED >> I have it on Xbox One you tw!t, the game is trash.

Avatar image for turretx7

<< LINK REMOVED >> I still play titanfall, I think it's awesome!

Avatar image for davem1992

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> congrats, I don't.

Avatar image for koospetoors

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Good for you, the exit is that side, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

With you on that turretx7, the game may be lacking in some departments but man is it just great fun overall to play every now and then. Makes for a great modern fast-paced shooter like experience till the new Unreal Tourney comes out.

Avatar image for animalosity

<< LINK REMOVED >> Why come on a thread about free DLC to tell us how much you hate it? Are you just simply looking for attention? I already know the answer to this. The thread is obviously catered to the fans who do still play it. 9 maps for free is a pretty good deal in this day and age of paid DLC.

By your logic, Evolve is also "overhyped garbage." It has a worse DLC model by making its fans pay for cosmetic skins. Customization in my opinion should be something that shouldn't be paid for, but hey to each their own. Evolve PC player base fell from 27k players world-wide to just under 5k players world wide. Does that mean its a bad game? Not necessarily, it just possibly means that Evolve too became repetitive. I see both sides of the argument that both games are either terrible or great, but just because you feel its the former, won't stop players from coming back to a particular game, especially when that game's developer just gave everyone free DLC.

If you're going to throw around blanket statements like that, at least have some sort of supporting evidence to back up your argument. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, that's for certain, but I highly recommend next time that you don't click on a game's article that you don't care for to immediately spam hate comments. Just doesn't make much sense now does it?

As much as Titanfall can be quickly monotonous, the game is still very well executed and was shipped with very little flaws. Heck do I dare so much to state that in my own opinion I think Titanfall is miles better than any Call of Duty I've ever played? Certainly ahead of Advanced Warfare, but that's just my opinion only, no need to crucify me here. I realize Call of Duty remains a power house franchise. We can kick and scream all we want to about paid DLC and in Respawn's case, was only 3 map packs with 3 maps each. Unfortunately, that's the gaming age we live in now. It's here to stay.

I will be the first to say that as much as Evolve is a really fun game, the paid DLC consist of skins. That's it. We have two more maps coming and one more monster of which you also have to pay for. I think Titanfall at least gave us more with 9 additional maps on top of the 15 original maps. That's pretty good if you ask me.

Whatever side of the fence you swing on the issue, this is a really great move on Respawn's part. It surely will bring people back. There's a bit of a "dead space" in games right now, so it's a perfect time to fill your back logs, and perhaps give games like Titanfall another chance at life. I personally love the game. Have since launched. Will I admit that I haven't played in quite some time due to the fact I reached level cap and burned out on it rather quickly? Absolutely, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game either. Neither is Evolve, just to clarify, but I also understand the shear massive amount of complaints that have arisen due to the lack of content and/or the potential balance and bugs issues that still appear to plague the core game play.

Tangents aside, I applaud Vince and Respawn for giving up the 9 additional maps for free now. I think it was a smart business decision and an excellent way to draw people back. Obviously Respawn has put a lot of care and attention to Titanfall as Respawn continues to release patches that enhances the game for the better. Looking forward to Titanfall 2 and I honestly couldn't care about a campaign for the sequel either. It's a twitched base shooter with giant armored mech's in all out fast paced war. What more do we need?

Avatar image for Thanatos2k

<< LINK REMOVED >> Call of Duty is a consolized bro shooter, so it's no real feat to be better than it.

Avatar image for alightningboldt

Titanfall is better than every other shooter on current gen as well

Avatar image for alightningboldt

Great comment. I agree with you completely. However I'd like to add that the "dead space" in gaming right now should be filled with ori and the blind forest. That's a very well-made and fun game.

Avatar image for animalosity

<< LINK REMOVED >> I've heard nothing but good things about Ori. I might have to check it out.

Avatar image for alightningboldt

You will continue to hear nothing but good things about Ori because there is nothing to hate. The game is extremely well made!
