Now Playing: Titanfall 2 - Teaser Trailer

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

Titanfall 2 will be out by the end of the year, Electronic Arts announced today.

As part of its latest earning report, EA revealed Titanfall 2 is scheduled for a fiscal Q3 release. That period spans from October 2016 through the end of December 2016.

Keep in mind another major EA shooter--Battlefield 1--is scheduled for release on October 21. EA presumably would want to offer some space between the two games (not to mention Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in November), making a late November or December release seem likely, but that's merely speculation at this point.

During a conference call with investors today, EA CEO Andrew Wilson was asked about the close proximity of Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2's releases.

"This is a giant category in our industry--[a] $4.5 billion category," he said. "There's a very broad and diverse set of players who play games in that category who are looking to fulfill different gameplay motivations. Some people play very quick-play, or something with more strategic play; some people want both in different contexts.

"The result of that is that we feel we actually have a really strong position to deliver the broadest set of gameplay mechanics as it relates to [the] first-person shooter genre across the two titles and feel very confident that we are well-positioned to do very well in that category in the year. Certainly you see the reception around Battlefield 1; we feel very good about that. The energy around Titanfall 2 is also building very nicely. We look forward to showing you more of both of those titles at EA Play in June.

Previously, EA had only said that Titanfall 2 would be out during the period that runs from October 2016 through March 2017 along with the new Battlefield and Mass Effect games. Earlier today, EA announced Mass Effect: Andromeda is now due out in early 2017.

Unlike the first game, Titanfall 2 will be released on PS4 in addition to Xbox One and PC.

I'm interested but I'll wait see what it's got at launch because we all know it will have a season pass which I don't buy till it's cheaper but if the base game don't have much then I'll wait.

great, i guess every developer and publisher now thinks "let's spam the fps market, divide the user base in a gazillion new ways and create fps fatigue"... :)

The foundation is there and it's awesome, but they really need to work on specifics, like matchmaking, reward system, ranks, etc. Done right, this could be one of the best shooters out there easily...

if they take server browser out, i wont buy this game....ever

if they bring in a tonne of air support streaks like cod, i wont buy this

and if its a greedy microtransactions fest game...forget it, no one will buy this game.

Titanfall is still my favorite shooter this generation. Can't wait until the second one.

@Shantmaster_K: same...so much good stuff in the first one...just need to flesh it out a little more..

@gamersince78: Indeed, I had a lot fun with Titanfall, and I fully agree with you, with a little more meat on the bones Titanfall2 could be awesome

Here's hoping the game has longevity; loved the first one, but the community died off way too fast.

@mrbojangles25: It's still full on the XOne i still play it just had some good gaming session's in it the other day

Makes sense

That's good news. I'm sure they'll get it right this time now that they know what gamers want.

@bobafetthatesu: they got it right the first time. Gamers know this.

Unfortunately, I will not pay for the next experiment in the series. EA and most of its titles are always plagued by bugs, weird controls or lack of servers. Stop paying for lousy games and support those that want to create great games for us.

Avatar image for gamersince78

@Platini: what are you talking about? It had no bugs at all...controls are the best for any FPS in this gen and servers were plentiful...I still play, and they are pretty full. Are you sure we are talking about the same game?

Avatar image for flames325
Flames325

@Platini: Titanfall didn't have any problems at all on the XOne anyway it's hands down the best FPS so far this gen and was a blast to play selling very well almost 7 million copies

They might be hoping for a Q3 release timeframe, but something tells me this might get pushed to February or March 2017.

Incidentally, what the hell is with these stupid auto-playing videos. They're annoying and shouldn't just play on their own.

Avatar image for bobafetthatesu

@jshah500: Actually, yes. Every single person that enjoyed Titanfalls flawless gameplay mechanics that also hated it at the same time for being a shallow soulless game with no campaign.

Avatar image for Barighm

@jshah500: Depends. Just a rehash of the original? No. A proper campaign and more robots? Yes.

July will be a good month to release Titanfall 2, releasing close to CoD its a bad idea.

Avatar image for Spartan_418
Spartan_418

@johnnyboy787: Alternatively, releasing a futuristic shooter like this next to CoD is a good idea, it has the potential to pull sales away from CoD and shrink Activision's market share.

Avatar image for johnnyboy787
Johnnyboy787

@Spartan_418: CoD would kill Titanfall 2 in sales, not even EA its that stupid.

Avatar image for gamersince78
GamerSince78

@johnnyboy787: you realize the makers of the best COD ever (COD4) created respawn right...the current creators of Titanfall...soo you are actually making fun of COD in an off-handed way lol

Avatar image for Spartan_418
Spartan_418

@johnnyboy787: Of course no one expects Titanfall to outsell CoD, but it could still hurt CoD and make it less dominant year over year.

I really wish GTA V had released the same week as CoD Ghosts, it would have had the ideal impact

Avatar image for brn-dn

@johnnyboy787: That would make sense since it would have all the attention but that won't happen.

Damn EA is killing it this year with Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 which i will be buying both plus get em both a little early on EA access.Keep it up EA you guys have really turned things around plus the partnership with the XOne is awesome

Avatar image for freeformrulz
freeformrulz

@smackdowner360: how exactly has ea turn things around? Knowing ea they r gonna probably have 50$ season pass for both games.

Avatar image for smackdowner360
smackdowner360

@freeformrulz: Lets see giving gamer's a great deal like EA access for starters being the number 1 selling publisher again with games like Battlefield and Titanfall which has sold in the million's along with better sports games.I never was a fan of Madden or NHL until the past couple of years. As long as the dlc is worth the $50 i don't have a problem with it unlike that garbage COD dlc.As far as a $50 pass every game has a season pass now if you don't like it don't buy it or stop playing video games. If i don't think a season pass is worth it then i don't buy it simple really

Avatar image for freeformrulz
freeformrulz

@smackdowner360: stop playing games? No need to get that defensive. Ur talking as if the cod dlc and battlefield dlc is different. It's just a bunch of maps. I can afford to buy every new games that come out so I'm not broke but theres a difference throwing money at garbage services like ea asses to play new release a couple of days early and 50$ season passes

Avatar image for smackdowner360
smackdowner360

@freeformrulz: No doubt you no nothing about EA access or just stupid? It's not $50 a year it's $30 and you don't pay for early access to games it's 20 games in the vault plus discount's on everything EA with early access to new games. With a game added to the vault every month to every other month. As i said it's the best deal in gaming unlike that ripoff playstation now crap.So please do some damn research next time before posting on a comment that you don't know a damn thing about.Jesus Christ just when you thought some of the people had reached the dumbest they could on the gamespot forums here you come along. Also if you had read my comment i said it's all up to the gamer if the dlc is for them or not before you buy it.Wow can you really be this stupid?

Avatar image for SkytheWiz1
SkytheWiz1

That's... really surprising, seeing as it'll compete with Battlefield 1, assuming that it'll come towards the end '16 (if it was coming earlier, I'd suspect there would be a more precise time frame).

Titanfall 2 should be an early 2017 release just in case it needs to be polished but also so its launch runs smooth

Avatar image for smackdowner360
smackdowner360

@senorbusyman: The last Titanfall was amazing or at least on the XOne it was nothing wrong with it at all.Selling almost 7 million copies so Titanfall 2 will be ready to go this fall if it's anything like the first one
