Three Years Later, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Still Seeing 12 Million Players Per Month

That's more than double the combined player base of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline.

Nearly three years after its release in November 2012, Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops II continues to remain incredibly popular. Activision has announced that, for the past three months, the game averaged 12 million monthly active users. According to Activision, that's an "unprecedented level for a game that is three years old and only available on old-generation consoles."

By comparison, Electronic Arts recently announced that the combined player base for Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline over the past three months was 6 million players, just half of Black Ops II's.

With more than 100,000 votes, Black Ops II is the most-requested title overall for Xbox One backwards compatibility on the Xbox Feedback site. However, Microsoft hasn't yet announced if the game will indeed be added to the lineup. The initial list of supported titles is coming on November 9.

Looking ahead to Black Ops III, which arrives on November 6, Activision said "momentum ahead of launch has been strong," citing the continued engagement with Black Ops II as one example.

In other recent Black Ops III news, Treyarch has announced mod tools for the PC edition and explained why the last-generation versions do not have a single-player campaign.

What are you expecting, Nintendo to release 100 games for Wii U?

@adam4897332: That's 6 exclusive games in a 3 month span. I agree that Wii U needs more 3rd party games but Nintendo releases a TON of exclusives compared to any other 1st party.

@dominoodle: They kind of have to, since if they don't release any game no one will.

@adam4897332: How many exclusives do MS and Sony release per year that aren't remasters of existing games?

I'm not surprised since it's a Treyarch game. Infinity ward (Ghosts/Modern Warfare) and Sledgehammer (Advanced Warfare) make pretty bad games. People will run back to Black Ops 2 and 3 next November when Infinity Ward screws up yet again lol.

@sonypony4eva: MW2 and WaW were probably the two I've enjoyed the most. Looking forward to seeing which WaW maps make it into BO3.

@sonypony4eva: Modern Warfare was such a good game. Too bad they ruined it.

I preordered both on the PC, the one I regret the most was Black Ops 2.
