Three More Games Added to Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program

Burnout Paradise has finally arrived, alongside two others.

Three more Xbox 360 games are playable on Xbox One, as Burnout Paradise, Rayman Legends, and Pure join the backwards compatibility catalog today. This was announced on Twitter by Microsoft's Major Nelson.

No Caption Provided

Burnout Paradise joining the catalog is no surprise at all, given that the game's developer, Criterion, announced plans to bring the game to Xbox One all the way back in July 2015. The game is one of the free Games With Gold titles for December 2016, going live on December 16. As of November 2015, all new Xbox 360 Games With Gold titles are playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

If you already own Burnout Paradise or Rayman Legends, they should show up automatically in your Xbox One game library. If not, you can buy them on Xbox One or through the links below. Note that Pure requires the Xbox 360 game disc to play on Xbox One and is not available digitally.

In other news about backwards compatibility, Microsoft recently confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion are not coming to the program, at least not yet.

There are more than 280 games in the Xbox One backwards compatibility program right now; see them all there.

November has been a big month for additions to the catalog. Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Skate 3, and Blue Dragon were all added. Microsoft's Phil Spencer said at the start of the month that November would be a "great" month for additions to the program.

The Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature launched a year ago this month with the New Xbox One Experience update. In celebration of the birthday, Microsoft recently revealed that people have spent 210 million hours playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One since the feature launched. This is up from 145 million hours as of August 2016.

In other news about Xbox backwards compatibility, Microsoft engineering lead Mike Ybarra said recently that Project Scorpio will "of course" support backwards compatibility. The console goes on sale in holiday 2017.

Can't believe Criterion is still kicking, they haven't made a good game since Sub Culture.

So they made a game BC that's already available on Xbone? Would have made more sense for Origins if it isn't already BC.

@sladey: gen 6 games are better than the modern crap......when all you add is a open world and ruin half the game making it open ended you've failed.....and they fracking failed big time IMO......

i hated the first Burnout bad game, Burnout 2 was really good, Burnout 3 was good, the rest between that and Paradise were good as well but for the game that supposedly put Criterion over the edge why the F didn't they do more?? why did they jump on the NFS games??? makes no sense.....EA should have dropped NFS and kept Burnout....

if more companies were remastering gen 6 games then the remasters wouldn't be so bad.....

if we had gotten Timesplitters trilogy remaster, Onimusha series remaster, KOTOR remaster, Battlefront 2 remaster, Burnout 2 & 3 remaster collection i'd be all over those games.....but instead we keep seeing games we just beat not so long ago.....and last decade's trash being redone......FFS this console generation is a joke and I thought last gen sucked ass lolz

@LPDisturbedHU: don't take it as an absolute cus you good goddamn well know not everything is 100% and there are exceptions even in my comment.....

but me personally, never liked Gears, didn't like TLOU or uncharted or resistance....Crackdown was cool but infamous is better, Bioshock 1 was epic but not so much the sequels, Mass Effect series is good.....

timesplitters, PGR2, GTA3, VC, SA, Onimusha series, Hitman 2, Contracts, BM and so many others blow the doors off most modern games.....TS Future Perfect was fun as hell and had so much content......COD has a piddly 4 hour SP game, a few hours where MP is doable then it get's old.....TS had a 6 or 7 hour campaign even longer if you systematically played each difficulty, challenge mode that unlocked stuff for MP and a map editor and MP had extensive modes that'd make modern games blush.......DM, TDM, CTF, tag bassically, Virus, Monkey Assistant, there was a mode where you gain a coin for each kill and the more coins you bank the more interest you got and with the weapon selection you have infinite possibilities....brick DM matches were the best.....everyone armed with a brick, no health or armor in level, throw brick to cause damage, first kill wins which could take forever, i had a match last 5 or 6 hours.....I sh**t you not.....games were better back then......more willing to be stupid/silly and yet succeeded because of it.....and I know there's silly fracking games now but none with timesplitters level charm......cxus that game was partly serious with a lot of silly to it and got more so as it progressed......I loved it cus it felt genuine.....Gears just felt obnoxious, Resistance felt hollow and shallow, not well put together......really wish we could have gotten more TS games.....and that's where I am currently, obsessed with TS......I kiss what that game had to offer...

@darthrevenx:Couldn't possibly disagree more. I loved a lot of gen 6 games, but as a whole, it doesnt even come close to matching gen 7. On my death bed, gen 7 will likely be my single favorite console generation of all time. Just so many amazing games and so much innovation. It blows gen 6 out of the water IMO. Just no comparison whatsoever.

In regards to the innovations, Xbox really dominated the generation. Here are just a few of the innovations we saw.

1) HD graphics for the first time - 2) apps for consoles which included the ability to watch TV and movies through services like Netflix - 3) Xbox Live Arcade and the advent of smaller digital only titles and indies on consoles - 4) digital distribution through an online store - 5) Achievements, which have even spread to PC gaming and really redefined how a lot of people play games - 6) superior matchmaking and party chat - 7) vastly improved Xbox Live expereince and the list goes on and on. Gen 7 changed the way people viewed game consoles and how they used them. As of last year, more people were watching TV through thar consles than playing games.

As for games, Gen 6 had some amazing titles, but once again, just no comparison to Gen 7. Just to name a few you had the start of Assassins Creed and multiple sequels that were great, Batman Arkham Asylum and Batman Arkham City (arguably the 2 most successful super hero games made to date), the Mass Effect trilogy (my single favorite game series to date), Bioshock 1 & 2, Bayonetta, COD Modern Warfare, Skyrim, the start of Gears of War and its sequels, GTA IV, GTA V, Halo 3, Halo Reach, The last of Us, Zelda Skyward Sword, Little Big Planet, Portal & Portal 2, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 2 (best of the series IMO), and this list just goes on and on and on. Orange Box, Fallout 3, Dark Souls, Metal Gear 4, the start of the Forza Horizon series, Dues Ex Human Revolution, Far Cry 3 (my personal favorite Far Cry game), Witcher 2, Journey, Dragon Age Origins (one of my all time favorite RPG's), Braid, Heavy Rain, Fez, Bastion, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, Rayman Legends, Tomb Raider, XCOM Enemy Unknown, Elder Scrolls Oblivion, God or War III, Diablo III, Trials, Trials Evolution, Shadow Complex, Mark of the Ninja, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Sleeping Dogs, Borderlands 2, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Dishonored, Crysis 2 (my favorite Crysis game), Dead Rising 2, Resonance of Fate, SSX, etc. Honestly, I could just keep naming amazing games all night long and this has largely to due to the length of generation 7. Again, I loved a lot of G6 games as well as it had some great games, but it G6 doesnt even come close to matching G7, both in regards to the number of quality games that were released during the generation and the innovations that occured within the console industry during that time. G7 wins hands down for me.

@RighteousNixon: last gen sucked cus all of the trends we're seeing now started last gen......

oh there was some good games for sure but I prefer gen 6 when dev's still had to actually complete games before launch where day one patches weren't a thing, where a game had to be gfoddamn complete before being released.......

this age, no QA, nothing is ever complete even with DLC, day one patches that take up valuable hard drive space, forced game installs that take even more memory, the very erosion of trust from consumers....slowly but surely some people are waking up to the truth that we used to get a wider variety and more quality games than we do now......

the one game I spent the most time on last gen is Fallout 3, that's it.....spent a year on it if not more.....

KOTOR alone from gen 6 i spent 3 years on........cus there was nothing better or if there was i didn't hear about it also i was always broke at the time so most games were rentals or bargain bin buys.....i have more money now but nothing worth spending it on so in a way the few MMO's i've been playing I don't mind spending a little in game cash every once and awhile.....this year the on;y new game I've bought is Doom and after beating it i went back to Fallout 4.....

if dev's actually completed their games sure as crap they'd be making way more profit.....

@7tizz: Hopefully they add the other 2 Burnouts soon, but if you go by the BC voting on the Xbox uservoice site there are almost twice as many votes for Paradise to be BC compared to Revenge or 3.

Why did they add Rayman Legends? It's already available on the Xbox One.

@ultimate_kiwi: Probably because adding compatability was simple and just a matter of tweaking a few bits, whereas other titles require more work.
