THQ intros Wii uDraw GameTablet

The Nintendo Wii sales charts have seen a preponderance of peripheral-based success stories, and THQ is hoping to claim the next one. The publisher today announced its uDraw GameTablet for Nintendo's console, a wireless virtual doodle pad with a pen attachment set to launch this holiday season.

The uDraw GameTablet will sell for $70 and come packed in with uDraw Studio, a painting package allowing users to create their own images and apply filters to them. Finished works can then be exported onto an SD card for use in other devices. The tablet itself is a 9-by-7 inch pad with a slot for a Wii Remote (minus MotionPlus add-on) on the left side. On the pad is a smaller blue-bordered drawing area (6-by-4 inches), as well as a tethered stylus with two buttons and a pressure-sensitive nib to allow for pen stroke thickness to be varied.

The tablet will also be compatible with other games, with THQ announcing Pictionary and Dood's Big Adventure as launching alongside the peripheral. The former is an adaptation of the Mattel board game, while the latter is a side-scrolling 2.5D platformer whose titular hero's skin can be customized via drawing on the tablet. The two games will sell for $30 each, and THQ intends to roll out further uDraw-compatible packages and games every three months or so.
