I'm really looking forward to this game. There really is a lot of potential for this game and I think THQ has an understanding for WH40,000 through Dawn of War. I hope it's good. I wanna kill some orks for the Emperor.

I didn't imply that! A shooter game can follow all the conventions that had been proven to be fun and still be fun!

The caveat is, it's just as fun as dozens of others which have similar gameplay mechanics, despite having different themes and premises. Commerce-wise, it can only rely on its narrative setting to sell.

That's what I see in Space Marine here. Personally, I don't want to play another fun shooter just because it's functional and fun - there are plenty of other titles if I want a fun shooter. In other words, I want some other reason for me to play this.

Otherwise, I will just stick to whatever shooter which I already have, is fun, is still popular and offers more value to come. (One particular title that is all this is in my "Now Playing" list.)

Until they come out with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines are Gay and Out of Control Zealots that Worship a Gigantic Dead Man Just like Every Other Religion Out There.....count me out FOR THE GREATER GOOD!

The movie was way underwhelming. Surprising considering it was written by a Veteran 40k writer but just goes to show you what happens when non-40k people get their hands on this license. Hopefully THQ can make a better attempt otherwise this is a Fail.

Not so surre, ive been wateing for a year but it seems less appealing now.

Not to sure about this game, I haven't been following it but from what I can tell its basically in the same vein was Gear of War which isn't such a bad thing but they'll have to do better than simply imitating Gears. Would also have been nice if could have updated the art style as well, I think they're still using the same character designs that was created 20 years ago.

@Espada12 To be brutally honest, saying I was unimpressed was being a little kind. The movie really was awful. They should have did a recreation of one of the Ultramarines books.

Shame its about the Ultrasmurfs and not the Space Wolves or Dark Angels, but still ... its taking a plasma gun and shooting an ork point blank in the face. This pleases me.

Another Warhammer game, but because it's on console, it has to be a dumb shooter of course!

I think this is going to get a par or lower but hey surprise me! It may as well be alive and well due to the support of war hammer fans. but judging from the texture and the looks at this stage, it has to stay alive to reach the "standard" market demand to sell if not it will sink to the bottom of the list let alone bringing the true creative warhammer spirit into the medium.

The trailer should zoom out and it's just a kid playing with warhammer on their kitchen desk.. That's what my imagination was always like :D I played a warhammer game back on the PS2, Firwarrior I think it was called. To be fair it was actually a pretty decent game. Ruddy hard though.

@Gelugon_baat I don't doubt what you say, but why does a game NEED to bring something 'new' to it's genre these days to be worthwhile? I'll be dubious of this game till it's release but as long as it doesn't have any gaping flaws I'll probably get it, regardless of whether it's particularly original or ground breaking. Just so long as it's tight and good fun.

For the people saying that this game brings nothing new to shooters. Pistol sized rocket launchers. Machine-gun rocket launchers. There are no bullets. Only very small rockets. That's new, and that's awesome. Irrelevant, but awesome.

since i played all 40k games on pc and playstation ill sure will get this one too i wont expect something great but for the 40k athmo i will get it ^^

While a shooter title wouldn't be far off the themes of Warhammer 40K - there are a lot of official Black Library publications that can practically be made into shooters - I don't think that I am as eager to follow updates on this game anymore as I was several months ago. To be honest, I only followed this game because it's Warhammer 40K - I realized now that it's not a game that I would look forward to, because it doesn't appear to be offering anything new to shooter genre. Well, it's off my "Following" list now.

ITT : people that dont know that warhammer is a table top game and was made into a RTS, this is a TPS im facepalming looking at some of the comments they can do what ever games workshop let them do

@organbank huh. seems i was terribly ignorant of all these changes. i guess that is pretty disappointing. ha now i dont really know what to expect, but as long as its better than that Warhammer 40k 3D movie then we're set. im even a 40k fan, but i would rather get buried in a tomb of fireants than have to watch that again haha

As I know that Warhammer 40,000 is a Real time strategy but here they are saying it a 3rd person RPG. Wht is it exactly, are they really making it as a 3rd person shooter or not.

man,been waiting for a more immersive warhammer game, (not much of a strategist =( ) the only dark scifi tabletop inspried game to come out that could top this for me is a heavy gear 3. but i think itd be activision *sigh*...

@Ronnie_Rim: For some one who "followed the game" you seemed to have missed all of the Relic developer interviews which specifically state what they have changed. If you are ignorant of the changes that have been made, then that is your fault not mine. All I have said is common knowledge that most people who have been following the game since 2007 already know. If you are too lazy to actually follow the game then feel free to GTFO and do your own research. Its fairly easy, just mark the game as 'follow' on this site and you will have automatic updates about any press related to the game. Or, become a member of Relic News to get more in-depth updates on the progress of the game and the design decissions Relic have made since taking over the project. You might even get a beta invite, but most of the keys are now gone. As to it being a generic shooter. The change is well known and documented. It is my personal opinion that generic shooters are boring, have little to no replayability and the gaming industry is flooded with them. I would have much perfered for Relic to have kept to the original concept of it being a 4 player co-op A-RPG dungeon crawler with all of the standard A-RPG mechanics ie: class system, loot, attribute points, skill trees etc. This would of made it into a epic game with tons of replayability. Now, as a generic shooter, I'll probably play it a couple of times and move onto to a more in-depth A-RPG (DE:HR for example). If it was not 40k then I would not even bother following it.

I... just don't care. And this isn't even relevant to the series. Well let me word that better. A strategy game has now become a third-person shooter. It IS just another shooter.

As a PUBLISHER, THQ stinks. Relic is passable, but THQ is 3 generations ago trying to masquerade as a transitioning company with a new logo. Pass.

@Krinnium: As I said, Relic have gutted the game of all its A-RPG aspects, it is now just another shooter, albeit with melee. They have also kept the bulk of the coding for the game. So really all Relic has done is picked up the finished product dumbed it down to be a shooter and (hopefully) polished it with extensive bug testing. Nothing against Relic, I own all of their games. However, some of the cuts they made to the game means that instead of it being a classic dungeon crawler set in 40k, it is now a generic shooter. I'll still get it, but knowing what this game was originally going to be, to what it is now, is very dissapointing to say the least.

hell yea! and chaos was just announced as another enemy faction. Been a long time coming for a warhammer game to really capture the hyper-violence of 40k. Space Marines know no fear.

I'm tired of shooters. Doesn't matter from what POV. What happened to the uber-epic action-adventure games that the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox had?

@organbank um... isnt it a good thing that the game is no longer being produced by a no name aussie dev team that went outta business? its being made by the guys who made Dawn of War II. nuff said, right? and with all the RPG elements in that game i have no doubt that they will come up with both a lot of loot and really balanced equipment, as well as some sweet abilities. Dawn of War II also had coop modes that will most likely make an appearance in this game. my only concern is that they havent made a shooter, just RTS games, so i hope the core gameplay isnt a little funky. closing thought is that these guys made Dawn of War what it is so i have faith that they wont produce something bad x]

FI - NA - LEE

This game has been in development since 2007. It was originally designed by an Australian developer who had NO links to Relic. In 2009 the Australian developer (can't remember name) went belly up and Relic took over. The original concept was for a A-RPG game with 4 player co-op. So, lots of loot, classes and attribute point distribution. Since Relic has taken over they have scaled the game back and cut HUGE chunks out of it to we have now a 'action adventure' game. I'm still getting it, but I have ZERO expectations. It has gone from a potentially classic dungeon crawler to a generic shooter, albeit, with melee weapons. This will not be a "Gears of War' clone considering Gears of War is in fact a 40k clone! Time will tell, but as a huge 40k fan I have to admit that I have been looking forward to this game since its conception back in 2007.

"Sinister" orks? Orks aren't sinister. Just joyfully, violently boisterous. I'd almost put them up there with the Tau and Eldar if it weren't for the fact that they have little regard for life and personal safety, and that they're idea of a good time is waging intergalactic warfare. Dangerous maybe, but never sinister. You'd never see a Terran or a Dark Eldar let prisoners free just because it was more fun to have them as enemies.

This and the new Deus Ex both in august? Damn i'm gonna be stuck in front of my PC alot in the summer, which is really wierd, when is the last time we saw 2 major titles like this in august? But yeah really hoping this does well, more interest in 40k is never a bad thing, and i would love anything that would make Relic think about making more of these games or more DoW or hell even a new 40K Tatical RPG would be great, havent had one of those in what seems like decades.

Relic is good at RTS games but we have to wait and see how this will come out.

This game has a lot of potential, but I think Relic will screw it. They have no experience at all with action games.

@PixelAddict THQ doesn't need your approval before they star publishing titles... YES, publishing, as in they don't make the games just publish them. The game is made by Relic who are more than capable, they made Company of Heroes and Dawn of War II.
