THQ Denies Wrestling on PS2
The company discusses the PS2 fate of Smackdown! 2.
At THQ's second annual Gamers Day Event, which was held at the House of Blues Foundation Room perched atop Mandelay Bay in Las Vegas today, representatives from THQ categorically denied that Yukes was working on a PS2 version of THQ's popular wrestling game, WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role.
It was assumed that THQ would announce its latest next-generation console titles at the event, and it was expected that there would be some announcement concerning THQ's long-running WWF license. Although most of THQ's internal development studios were present, Yukes was missing from the Gamers Day Event, and other THQ representatives were showing off current console versions of SmackDown! 2 and No Mercy.
THQ did admit to owning 15 percent of Yukes, and the company has held the WWF license for a couple of years. Although THQ categorically denied the presence of a Yukes PS2 WWF game, the company is probably holding out for a more spectacular unveiling in the near future.
