Thor: Ragnarok Could Take Darker Tone, With Hulk Playing Major Part

Cheer up Thor!

There's no fewer than four new Marvel movies in the pipeline before the next Thor movie arrives in late 2017, but already some details have emerged about the hammer-wielding Avenger's third standalone adventure.

No Caption Provided

BMD are reporting that Thor: Raganrok will be a "dark, serious" movie that focuses upon the end of the Norse world. This seems to be the reason for the surprising choice of Taika Waititi as director. Waititi's previous films are the low-budget New Zealand comedies What We Do in the Shadows and Eagle Vs Shark, a world away from the spectacular superhero action of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. BMD's sources suggest that Waititi has been brought in to "balance out the grimness" of the Thor: Raganrok script.

It has also been rumoured that the Hulk will play a big part of the film's story. The Hulk is the one major Marvel character that hasn't had any further standalone movies announced, which some have suggested is because Universal still own the distribution rights to any future Hulk films, rather than Disney.

But JoBlo.com have now revealed that the Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, will "feature prominently" in the next Thor movie. It will also see Tom Hiddleston return as Loki, the villainous brother of Chris Hemsworth's title character.

The previous Thor movie, Thor: The Dark World, was released in November 2013. It has earned more than $644 million worldwide, making it the sixth most successful of Marvel's films to date. Thor: Raganrok is due to be released on November 3, 2017.

If it follows anything like the Hulk Vs Marvel animated movie where loki lets a pissed off hulk run rampant through Thors world it will be a blast. That was not only a good animated movie but a good movie period.

dear GS, can we have a separate tab for non-gaming news please ??

a movie or Apple or non-gaming article interrupts the gaming news stream...

i wonder how many other people find this annoying too

Yawn, Marvel movies are getting old. It's like Modern Warefare to present day COD, once cool, now cash grabs and dull.

So it's not just Eddie then, it's like they intentionally hire people who can't write to do the non-game-related articles.

The subtitle on the homepage was wrong too.

It's not even funny or acceptable anymore. This new gamespot writer "Dan Auty" has made typos in nearly every post he writes...

Examples: "Raganrok", calling Deadshot "Deadbolt" and many other articles I don't remember at the moment. It just really bothers me that new gamespot editors don't proof read and fact-check before posting stuff.

Hulk vs Thor confirmed! In the animated version Loki controls Hulk like a remote controlled wrecking ball and reeks havok on Assguard. So, more mind control confirmed? Somebody needs to develop Banner a helmet like Magneto or something so people will stay out of his head!

Hulk is not in Civil War because he was on Planet Hulk at the time.

The second Thor movie is boring as shit. Maybe the third one will be better?

Wasn't the first movie about "the end of the Norse world"? I mean, basically.

Isn't that what Marvel ALWAYS says before their movies come out? Even the trailers try to show some kind of 'dark' tone...then the movie comes out and it's a cheese factory. Just say the movie will be awesome, that's an easier lie to make at this point.

@BradBurns: Because no one wants to go see a cartoon kiddy super hero movie. DC goes darker while Marvel goes for light dark. Doesn't matter to me cause I enjoy both of there movies but I like DC more so then Marvel.

@BradBurns: No, no way, that's impossible! The universal decree of Whatever demands that all comic book movies are either kiddy movies or grimdark, because reasons.

It's the new way of film-making. They get small time directors that'll do as they're told because the movie execs have a list of notes on what must be included in the film in order to cross-promote and set up future films. They certainly don't want directors that have a vision or ideas of their own. That's why so many real directors back out of these projects when they realise Disney is just looking for janitors.

@alien33: si it that hard to use Google ? Ragnarok is the final battle between the Gods and their enemies, which will basically end the world. It's kinda like the Christian Apocalypse.

@cyanak: Pal, he's talking about the bad grammar.

Also Ragnarok is the battle between the Aesir and the Vanir, not the "Gods and their enemies" since both Vanir and Aesir are Gods.

@Sohereiam: Perhaps the next typo to look forward to will be Irony Man, which in itself would be very ironic.

This literally looks like they had a 12 year old write the article. In fact, I'm pretty sure my 12 year old cousin could write a better article than this with less grammar mistakes.

Raganrok? It's Ragnarok. LOLOLOL. Gamespot's editors need to go back to English class. So many spelling mistakes in articles recently.

@berserker66666: Ragnarok is not an English word, so I'd be kinda surprised if that helped. What they actually need to do is just double check their spelling on stuff like movie titles.

Also, I don't know if this typo is funny enough to deserve that many lols, in caps or otherwise. I don't believe you were really laughing out loud out loud out loud.

@berserker66666: hahahahaha really??? didn't pay attention to that one xD though this mistake I can understand since "d" is close to "x" on the keyboard....a forgivable typo =P

Still it's not an excuse... Proofreading and fact checking is a no brainer when writing articles.

@xXxKTTxXx: That's a much less douchey way to explain yourself than, "LOLOLOL! Go to English class!" Should have lead with that.

And yeah, somebody should pay closer attention to this stuff, it does look bad.
