This is How Much Money Was Pledged to Kickstarter Video Games in 2015

Popular crowdfunding platform Kickstarter has announced year-end numbers for 2015, revealing that a total of $46,177,705 was pledged to video game projects during the year from 480,382 backers. A total of 421 projects were successfully funded.

Shenmue III led all other video game projects with more than $6.3 million raised during its run from 69,000 backers. With $5.5 million pledged, Castlevania developer Koji Igarashi's Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was the second biggest Kickstarter video game project of the year.

Combined, these two games made up around a quarter of all Kickstarter video game pledges in 2015.

Kickstarter's "Games" category also includes tabletop games, which attracted $88,916,039 in pledges from 522,061 people during the year. 1,230 tabletop games were successfully funded in 2015.

With video games and tabletop games combined, the total Games category generated over $144.4 million in pledges from more than 978,000 people during the year. According to Kickstarter, that's almost twice as many people and dollars pledged compared to 2014.

"We couldn't be more psyched," Kickstarter said.

Kickstarter did not provide a comparison to 2014 for the video game figures specifically. We have reached out to the site in an attempt to get more details and will update this post with anything we hear back.

Though it's arguably the biggest, Kickstarter is not the only method of crowdfunding for games. Developers are also raising money from outside Kickstarter, through places like Fig or on their own site, as is the case with Star Citizen.
