Third-party games come to uPlay

Ubisoft's virtual shop adds titles from EA, Warner Bros., Telltale Games, and Bohemia Interactive; Ubisoft games now on Origin.

Ubisoft's uPlay virtual marketplace today added third-party titles. The publisher has signed agreements with more than 15 companies to make their games available through the platform, including Electronic Arts, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Telltale Games, and Bohemia Interactive.

No Caption Provided

To mark the arrival of third-party titles on uPlay, Ubisoft is offering a free digital copy of Driver: San Francisco Deluxe Edition, From Dust, Might & Magic Heroes VI Deluxe Edition, Rayman Origins, The Settlers 7 Gold Edition, or World in Conflict: Complete Edition with the purchase of any PC title $19.90 or higher. The offer expires March 4.

Separately, EA announced that select Ubisoft titles like Assassin's Creed III, Far Cry 3, and Splinter Cell Conviction are coming to Origin. These will be available to purchase for PC through the digital storefront starting today in North America and in Europe and Asia on February 22.

Origin has 40 million members across PC, Mac, and iOS and boasts a library of more than 500 titles from EA and a range of publishing partners.

Getting F*** sick of UPlay crashing, either Co-Op or multiplayer in FC3 using that stupid bloody hosting, causing interrupted gameplay & random disconnects from game.

UPlay is a vicious sexual disease for gamers PCs (and laptops for those with the inclination).

Well here in India, Steam and uPlay charge in $ while Origin charges in ₹, games are 2x more expensive on Steam/uPlay, Origin is closer to the retail prices... no logical reason for me to buy a game for ₹2500 when its available for ₹1000 at retailers :/

At least if they wanna capture this market they gotta fix tht..

Origin ? Don't care. uPlay ? Don't care. These security hole infested, worthless DRM spyware trojans aren't getting on my system, ever. (while Valve on Steam offers you to optionally opt-in to surveys and analysis, EA and UbiSoft start spying on you and scan your entire system the second you install their client)

I chose Steam, GoG and various Indie portals as my trusted platforms of choice and am a satisfied, trouble free customer. (doesn't mean I buy everything on Steam either - if a game has some 3rd party launcher, activation limits or DRM, it won't be bought on Steam either)

Either UbiSoft and EA start releasing their games on Steam and GoG too WITHOUT their own launchers and DRM clients or they will stay on my no-buy list. (this is also a shout out to the developers that keep signing exclusivity contracts - reconsider that if you want people to actually buy your games)

@thequickshooter @bloody-hell i believe that fact has already been covered and the fact its a non-intrusive DRM was the key point

If there's an announcement of a delay for Metro: Last Light by March 4th, I know where I'm buying Crysis 3. Receiving From Dust for free is a good incentive.

I use their follow-up platform, yPlay. Then I went back to steam. The real trick is buying games from Steam that don't force you to register with these other crappy distribution places to even play the game. If steam doesn't get a handle on that trend soon I'll just move over to Gog.com.

@raahsnavj

I dunno why you'd "switch" rather than just have both. I use GOG whenever possible because its 0 DRM, but I add all the game shortcuts to Steam.

And fortunately, Steam usually notifies you of 3rd party DRM like SecuRom in the game description on the store page- they could be better about letting you know about needing an Origin or GFWL account though.

But in the end Steam is a choice for the developers. They could release it DRM free on Desura or GOG, but they'd rather release it on Steam.

It is always going to be a better choice than Origin, because Steam lets you at least have your CD key, and tells you what it is, so many games bought direct from the source easily integrate both ways. Origin gives you an Origin specific CD key. Much worse

I wish everyone just supported steam. I wonder how much it costs them to start the own digital distribution? if its even worth it most steam users are happy with steam and don't want to install something else on their computer. I don't want Origin or Uplay on my computer, it ends up having a negative impact on there sales. There are more people like me that are happy with steam and don't want some other online store. I like using steam for adding friends and what not. Having more then one online gaming system of that sort when the market on PC is smaller then Xbox. It seams like a bone head to thing to do, steam already has my friends connected to it. why should we all have to use 3 peaces of software depending on what one you buy from I still use vent or mumble for voice but steam has a nice texting system in place.

@CBN16 that would be a good thing yes if.........it didnt then mean having to have steam and uplay running in order to play the game youve paid for so if a connection to either drops out you're then kicked out of playing your game

@CBN16 But even then, most of their new games require you to register the game on uPlay. Thus you become another customer 'using' uPlay... I just quit buying Ubisoft and EA items because I don't want to be bothered with their portals and required registration and such.

@CBN16 Yeah, not like EA holding onto their titles and refusing to share them on Steam. This cross breeding thing with EA/Ubisoft is interesting, though.

people use origin and uplay because they're required to play the games published by their respective owners (battlefield 3, anno 2070). people use steam because it's steam.

Origin and U play need serious improvements for them to be relevant in this market, not only those Third-party games.

Usually if you can buy the game from either service, if you bought the game on one service the same CD key that the service provides you with should carry over: This is less likely to apply however if you bought the game on one service before it was available on the one you are transferring it to.

I would love to see future Console integrated with multiple services (Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc)

It could bring Cross-Platform between Consoles users, PC, Mac, or Linux, that would be awesome.

The only thing that hold back innovation are Xbox Live and PSN with their stupid walled garden.

@Ladiesman17 Cross platform wouldnt work with any competitive multiplayer game involving PC gamers. They would slaughter the console gamers.

I agree it would be great if other DD services were allowed on the consoles.

Technically it's not free if you to pay money to get it. It's included in the price, an important difference.

Good for them. Still refuse to use their client until they stop thinking that we're all pirates and improve their client. To this day, none of my games show on there despite unlocking achievements and rewards for them. It is also insanely slow on my PC for some reason. It makes origin look like Steam.

On that note, let's go protest outside id software and blame them for every crappy FPS game ver released.

After all, since they popularized the genre they are responsible for everyone else's work in the same genre.

Wait...no.

One day, someone is going to make a client of clients for all these different digital stores and there will be peace on the digital storespace as it will also include a built-in price comparison tool and one-click install for all your library. At last count, I have more than half a dozen such services in use, many of them with their own clients and separate content library. Given the kind of discounts on PC though, this kind of minor inconvenience is not too much of an issue!
