Thieves Steal $530,000 Worth Of Props From Netflix's The Crown, Lupin

Netflix has released a statement disclosing that production sites for both The Crown and Lupin have been burglarized. According to The Hollywood Reporter, roughly $530,000 worth of props were stolen on February 24 and 25.

No injuries were sustained in the incidents. Investigations into the robberies are underway, and it's unclear whether there's a connection between the two. In The Lupin incident--perpetrated, ironically, against a heist drama--it is reported that about 20 thieves with covered faces "broke onto the set" after throwing fireworks as a diversion. Lupin star Omar Sy, who portrays master thief Assane Diop, was reportedly on set at the time of the robbery.

Across both productions, at least 350 items were stolen. "We can confirm the antiques have been stolen and we hope that they are found and returned safely," a Netflix spokesman said in a statement. "Replacements will be sourced, there is no expectation that filming will be held up."

It is completely within the realm of reality to expect some of these items--which include replica Fabergé eggs and gold and silver candelabras--to be returned. In January, a stolen set of first edition Lord of the Rings books believed to be worth about $2,000 were returned to the Worcester Charity their sale was intended to benefit.
