The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition Confirmed

It will include The Witcher 3, Hearts of Stone, as well as Blood and Wine.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

[Updte] CD Projekt Red has confirmed to GameSpot a Game of the Year Edition of The Witcher 3 is planned.

"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a gigantic effort for the entire studio, and both the team and me were amazed by the good reception of Geralt’s adventures," said game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz.

"Since launch, we’ve released two expansions, Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine, which added a lot of new adventures to the already potent mix. With all the free DLC and updates the game received so far, including significant changes to the game’s interface and mechanics, many gamers have asked us if we’re working on some sort of a Game of the Year Edition."

He continued: "I’m happy to confirm--yes, plans are in motion to release such an edition. We’ll release more details, including the release date, in the future. In the meantime, I’d like to thank every fan of the game for their support--you’re really amazing!"

[Original story] The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition has been rated by a German classification board, suggesting a version of CD Projekt Red's RPG with all post-launch DLC will be available in the future.

The listing, which was discovered by Twitter user Lifelower, has been rated for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Neither developer CD Projekt Red nor publishers Bandai Namco and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have officially teased or announced a Game of the Year Edition yet.

GameSpot has contacted CD Projekt for a statement.

Since its launch in 2015, The Witcher 3 has been updated with two large expansion packs: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The latter added a whole new region and featured 90 new quests, making up around 30 hours of gameplay.

CD Projekt co-founder, Marcin Iwinski said Blood and Wine is definitely the final chapter in The Witcher 3's story and the studio has no intention of making a new Witcher game for the foreseeable future.

Instead it is focusing on Cyberpunk 2077, which is scheduled to launch sometime in the 2017-2021 window. The studio doesn't expect to show more of it until for a while, however.

"Right now it's the end of talking about Cyberpunk until we can go out there and show stuff and say, 'Hey, here it is,' because that's how we do games, Iwinski said in May. "There is too much talking about what it possibly could be, and how big, and...

"When we show it, we should show it and explain it. So I'm going to have people not read anything about Cyberpunk probably for the next... time, whatever the time will be."

At E3 2016, CD Projekt announced Gwent, a standalone version of The Witcher 3's card collecting and battling game. It is scheduled for September, across Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Anyone know when the next patch update is due out to fix some of the things that have been broken with 1.21 and 1.22? For one there are some of us that can't run Mods, they messed up the way for which the camera works and other things that need to be addressed.

Avatar image for soul_starter

So when's the release? Because this might be the version I buy.

Avatar image for Pelezinho777

But what does that mean for America?

Avatar image for asertyuio

Didn't someone ask this in the past and they replied that they won't be doing that? I guess they changed their mind.

I always go for the GotY edition if there is one and my gaming habits/backlog allow me to wait until even that version is down to a small fraction of the original price. It's a bit silly, but I like to have everything at once, in one package. Even if TW3 + season pass offers everything, I still feel better knowing that there is a GotY edition.

Avatar image for juiceair

@Hurvl: it's not silly, it's smart.

This game is unbelievable, I try it 2 weeks ago and now I have over 35 hours and can't stop playing.

Avatar image for nadsat-77

That's cool, with all the DLCs and so many patches is now taking an obscene amount of HDD space, it will be very convenient to have it all in a disc.

Avatar image for Darkhol0w

One of the few games that can actually hold that accolade "game of the year" since it won goty over 240 times.

Avatar image for Barighm

This version will be boosted for Scorpio and Neo, right?

Avatar image for Tiwill44

They really like stroking their own ego, don't they? It wasn't even the best game of that month.

The terms "RPG" and "Open World" giving bad games a free pass is a trend that needs to stop.

Avatar image for gunchap

@Tiwill44: are you a troll or somehow mentally impaired? Calling Wild hunt a bad game... you haven't played it, probably.

just go back to your ''superior'' cs:go

Avatar image for Tiwill44

@gunchap: I was impressed by some aspects of the graphics (the environments especially), but everything about the gameplay fell flat or was disappointing. If I only wanted story + graphics, I would play an interactive movie.

I don't even like CS:GO, so I'm not sure where that came from.

Avatar image for jguilherme

@Tiwill44: Witcher 3 being flat or was disappointing? uow!!

So, what do you like to play? I am honestly curious now.

Avatar image for Tiwill44

@jguilherme: You say that as if The Witcher 3 was one of the only good games ever made or something. There's plenty of other games.

If you're honestly curious, I update this document fairly often. It's a list of all the games I've played, with (obviously biased) ratings. I also have a 'stack' on this site where I list the games I've completed.

Avatar image for jguilherme

@Tiwill44: hahaha regarding the absolutely huge list of games you played (as you say so!), you opinion should have a little more depth. But hey, we all have opinions. So be it.

Avatar image for soul_starter

@Tiwill44: You have a penchant for platformers and a lot of your best games are from that decade old era. No problem with that btw, especially considering I've only played a bit of Witcher 3 and am looking to add it to my PS4 collection rather than PC. But you probably wouldn't like a game like that because your tastes are different.

Avatar image for Tiwill44

@soul_starter: Hmm, that's a good examination of my tastes, which I appreciate. It's true that Wild Hunt would never have been an all-time favorite of mine. Despite that, I still think it could have been a much better game; a game I could call great despite not being a huge fan of.

Mostly, I didn't like the way you resolve quests in that game. You're forced to use Witcher Senses most of the time, which rubbed me the wrong way. Personally, I think that's a bad game mechanic in any game, and a lazy solution to open-world design. It's not satisfying to complete quests when there's that much hand-holding.

Also, I would have liked to see more customization in... well, everything. More skills/spells would've been nice, perhaps stats to assign on level-up, more weapons, more options for Geralt. For an open-world action RPG, I thought these options were severely limited compared to other games in the genre.

I realize it's supposed to be the tale of Geralt, an already established character. But then why make it an open-world RPG? If you're going to tell a specific story about a specific character, then make it more linear and focused, and perhaps I wouldn't have lost interest. For me, The Witcher 2 was a better game than Wild Hunt because of that.

@jguilherme (tagging him because he asked for more depth).

@Tiwill44: wow a list of boring games, with boring rating of 0 to 10, thank you for spending all that time

@belz: no problem mate, glad to be of help

Even the normal version is worth every penny. Making this one of the best GOTY versions of a game ever created.

Avatar image for gamebuyer22

The DLC will be codes because of the size of the main game. Not to mention the absurd size of the combined patches. So no DLC on disc unfortunately.

Avatar image for capocrimeboss

@gamebuyer22: It could come on 2 discs. Heaps of GOTY editions last gen did.

Avatar image for rasterror

About cotton picking time! I was waiting for the GOTY edition to come out before I play it again. One of the greatest games I've ever played.

Avatar image for Gamer_4_Fun

You mean Game of the Decade edition right?

Avatar image for Mr_Mark_Legion

anything new come with it? 2 months ago i got the base game and both exp. for about 45 bucks.

Avatar image for davillain-

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is my all time favorite RPG game since Knights of the Old Republic/Sith Lords and there was no way I was gonna wait for GOTY edition and got the Expansion Pass since day one and CDPR earn my money. Still playing new+ game as we speak.

Also for those who was waiting for GOTY edition buy this day one! Worth every penny.

Avatar image for martintule24

I jumped into this game with an open mind but I didn't like it. I think this game is over rated and boring. I think people just buy it to see the sleeping with the girl scenes. Gave the game a week of play then sold it.

Avatar image for Baracuda1337

@martintule24: are you one of those guys who pay for porn on the internet?

Avatar image for razecah12

@martintule24: ur retard that why u dont like this game

Avatar image for RossRichard

@martintule24: 1/10, try harder.

Avatar image for martintule24

@RossRichard: I'm not trying anything just giving my opinion 😉

Avatar image for musalala

@martintule24: I miss the days of talented trolls

Avatar image for Geocross

@martintule24: If you didn't like the game it's OK whatever your reasons are but I think only immature people will buy the game for what you describe even though you don't need to buy it to see those scenes, they are on internet. Maybe you're revealing yourself and wanted more of that content but felt disappointed by the lack of it. The game is amazing in gameplay, story and graphics, that's why I think people play it and considered it the game of last year.

Avatar image for martintule24

@Geocrossi loved metal gear solid v the phantom pain to me that was game of the year. The combat in the Witcher was boring with the 2 strikes and potions. I only used the fast attack because the strong one was worthless. The game was glitchy as hell but it's my fault for trying an RPG. I'm not a fan of the genre but i tried this game because of the good reviews. Also tried bloodborne but was too hard. Maybe I'll try out fallout 4 or something.

Avatar image for deactivated-5837c1bea62c5

@martintule24: I had no reason to see Geralt fucking women. I thought the game was fantastic.

Avatar image for arcanesmile

I've been patiently waiting on this. My internet is shite or I would have bought day one.

Avatar image for GH05T-666

I'll get this one in the next Steam sale

Avatar image for Hurvl

@GH05T-666: I always get my witcher games from GoG and any other new games that happens to be cheaper, but that's just me. Also, the Steam sales are not what they once were, making the GoG sales seem better.

Avatar image for brownyyy

Sweet I will get this version on the PC. Hopefully its built by then.
