The Witcher 3 GOTY Version Doesn't Let You Carry Over Save Data on Consoles

But you can on PC.

With the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's Game of the Year/Complete Edition right around the corner, developer CD Projekt Red has now confirmed new information about it regarding save data and achievements, among other things.

First, your save data from the original game will not carry over to the new version on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. "The save files on consoles won't be compatible between different game versions (GOTY vs regular version) as they are treated by systems as separate products," community manager Marcin Momot wrote in the game's forums (via Eurogamer). "This is something that's not up to us. Sorry."

On PC, save files are compatible, Momot said in a tweet.

This may not be a major issue for everyone, as the GOTY/Complete edition is aimed more on newcomers. Still, it's something to be aware of.

Writing on Twitter, Momot also revealed that The Witcher 3 GOTY/Complete will feature a separate Trophy/Achievement list. Additionally, he said a patch is coming near the release of the new version, though the changelog has yet to be released.

CD Projekt Red announced The Witcher 3 GOTY/Complete edition last week. It launches on August 30 and includes all previously released DLC, including the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. In some regions it's called the GOTY edition and in others it's referred to as the Complete edition.
