The Witcher 3 release date has been delayed again, seven months after its developer promised the title's deadlines would not be pushed back any further.

Poland-based developer, CD Projekt Red, has set the game's new launch date for May 19 next year.

High ambitions for the next-gen title were cited as key reasons for the delay.

"The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected," the studio wrote in a prepared statement.

CD Projekt Red's announcement marks the second such delay for the Witcher 3 project. In March, studio co-founder Marcin Iwinski assured that there would be no further setbacks.

"This is not our first game; we are not newbies," he said at the time. "It's not like 'hey we are delaying and we'll keep on delaying'.

In October, CD Projekt Red responded to rumours that the studio was entering crunch to finish the game on time, and that its public demonstrations were overly flattering.

"If you have any doubts about Wild Hunt’s quality, have a look at the 35-minute gameplay video we published some time ago, or check out gamers' reactions to our public previews at Gamescom, San Diego Comic Con, and E3 (it's all public and available on the studio’s YouTube channel), and decide for yourself."

The open letter to fans can be found below.

Dear Gamers, May 19th, 2015.

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.

The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.

Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so.

Avatar image for PCsama

take your time, we want an incredible game after all it is the conclusion of Geralt of Rivia story

Avatar image for isshiah

Time to add multiplayer, eh?! Haha

Please, no.

Avatar image for dman221nkw

I really hope they don't try to attempt multiplayer because Assassin's Creed tried that and look what happened. in fact that's probably why the witch is getting delayed because they saw what happened to Assassin's Creed.

Avatar image for Harbinger_CR

I completely trust them, if they need to delay the game, then so be it. I know it's gonna be awesome and can't wait!

Avatar image for mk4pi

Well then, i guess i can focus on playing GTA 5 (If it will not be delayed any futher).

Avatar image for phbz

They are implementing the best co-op mode to ever have graced a RPG.

rumour mode off/

Avatar image for jackofdiam0nds

normally I would say WHAT the F.... but as unity and farcry 4 came out unfinished I rather it be delayd but not broken specialy as its presumably on of the most anticipated games of 2015

you know they should just shut up and not say anything about release dates...dont build up the hype then kill it by changing the release date LOL

Avatar image for DAOWAce

Simple solution: Don't announce release dates.

Blizzard got that right for years.. shame they took a nose dive a few years back.

Anyway, this gives me more time to actually finish the first two games. I burn out from things that take 60+ hours to complete, bleh.

<< LINK REMOVED >> blizzard took ages and then went full re**** and made online only DRM-plauged glitch ridden game

where you do nothing but grind and grind then right click some monsters with medicore plot

Well... I'm disappointed but I'm not going to worry about situations that I cannot control. Hopefully The Witcher 3 is epic when it does release.

Avatar image for khalkistsester

In the words of Miyamoto...

A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.

So yeah, take your time.

Avatar image for TazmanianD

I don't mind the delay if it means they can really produce a great game. I'm hopefully optimistic but part of me is worried that they've taken on more than they can handle.

Avatar image for wolv25

So now I don't believe them in that this game will be comes out at May.I think they delay it one more time for exapmle to November next year so finally this game will be delay one year! They should be ashamed.

Avatar image for RandomAvatar

Haha I knew it, fuckers

Avatar image for dlaney34

FFsake.... With this many setbacks, they must really be making a special game. God that's brutal though, that's now like a 1/2 a year away....

Avatar image for siddhantdeep

Well since its the last game in the witcher series......

Personally, I am glad for two reasons.

1. I want this to be the best game that it can possibly be. Huge fan of the first two, and I don't want my conclusion to this trilogy to be a bug-ridden experience. Hopefully I can run it on a setting higher than "LOW"!

2. 2015 is swamped with games! This is seriously one of the most densely packed year of releases for games I am interested in. This makes Q1 much less congested.

Avatar image for bmwcastrolteam

What feature did they see in Dragon Age: Inquisition? >.<

Avatar image for hastati4

Maybe I'll be done with DA:I by the time this comes out, then. Maybe.

Avatar image for dlaney34

<< LINK REMOVED >> LOL I know, DA : I --- it just keeps going, and going....

Avatar image for coop36

Fine with me. id rather it be delayed and good than rushed and broken.

Avatar image for gabetrammell

Hope no one per ordered this you may be dead by the time it comes out lol. Hopfully this means there just adding more content and polish. What is this the fourth time they have pushed it back?

Avatar image for revieced

<< LINK REMOVED >> i heard that they will make it possible for the game to have more than 1 playable characters besides Geralt. Ciri i bet, which sounds awesome

Avatar image for quickshooterMk2

i wish i had a time machine, or being able to freeze myself

there are no gamers to play until may... (besides inquisition)

Avatar image for crunchydragon

and that is how a real dev should act. quality work and honesty. I can wait for awesomeness :) wish some other huge devs acted the same way.

Avatar image for quickshooterMk2

i guess the game needed a bit more *puts glasses*

but in any case, it's a bit shady they keep postpoing this game

maybe CDPR bit more then can chew with all the said features

i think they'll deliver but we might see another delay just might...

Avatar image for nommo210

Cool. Do what you have to do to make the best game possible.

Avatar image for nayce54

Now that they are having problems this means that this game is going to suck!

Avatar image for Snepstok

Although I don't care even remotely about delays, I think a company like this with ample experience should not take delays and broken promises too lightly. For anyone in a creative business it's also understandable: I've been in one for 7 years now and I still make too optimistic promises now and then. Besides, they cracked open the franchise: open world is a whole other ballgame.

So I say: no problem, but be critical of deadlines.

On a lighter note: in the case of CD Projekt extra delay will likely equate to more quality!

Avatar image for richreason

I would rather have a quality release that doesn't need 20 patches to fix. I live in Nigeria and 1 GB of bandwidth costs 4$, and usually only can patch or download bigger games when I am on leave... Having said that it is a disappointment that it is coming out later... just bought a new video card so that I could play it hopefully it will work with it and I wont need to buy another

Not to be a troll who walks into a crowded room, farts, then walks out but since no one else is mentioning it.... Didn't a former employee of CDPR come out recently and say that Witcher 3's development is struggling to deliver what the game's hype is promising? The last time that happened it was arguably prophetic with The Old Republic. Also, I just farted.

Avatar image for focuspuller

Breaking News: Star Citizen will be fully released before The Witcher 3.

Avatar image for ecter1216

I love CDPR but they are starting to sound just like any other game company. Making promises and breaking them. They said no exclusive DLC or items for consoles, yet you get different stuff on consoles then on PC. They promised to not push the date back again. They broke that promise to. It always starts out small but gets bigger.

Avatar image for focuspuller

<< LINK REMOVED >> Don't cry for me Argentina.

Avatar image for ecter1216

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> How is it crying?

Avatar image for muratkerem

This is good news. We will wait for a quality product. This is much better than what Ubisoft pulled with AC Unity.

Avatar image for luiske007

<< LINK REMOVED >> You said it friend :) We don't need 3 low-quality Witcher video games a year!

Avatar image for Nikore

Developers earn the most loyalty from gamers by releasing quality products. As long as CDPR continues to make terrific games, I'm confident that their fans will easily forgive another shift in schedule. Nobody excuses a bad game just for being released on time – a lesson Ubisoft (and many others) learned the hard way.

Avatar image for focuspuller

<< LINK REMOVED >> By that logic, The Last Guardian must be a REALLY quality product. :)

Avatar image for ispotmoregames

Hopefully this is to avoid a buggy release like AC unity which I immediately sold with << LINK REMOVED >>. I actually want this game to be as perfect as trailers and previews show. Keep fingers crossed!
