The Winds Of Winter Still Has Hundreds Of Pages To Go

George R.R. Martin has given another update on the much-delayed and highly-anticipated Game of Thrones continuation.

George R. R. Martin has given yet another update on Winds of Winter and it looks like we'll be waiting a while yet. In an interview on Bangcast (via IGN), Martin claimed he written a total of 1,100 pages, as of this latest counting, which is the same amount he gave last year.

Martin said, "I have like 1,100 pages written but I still have hundreds more pages to go. It's a big mother of a book for whatever reason. Maybe I should've started writing smaller books when I began this but it's tough. That's the main thing that dominates most of my working life."

This, of course, does not mean that Martin has not been hard at work on the manuscript. As IGN points out, between re-writing, editing, and story planning, there's still plenty of labor time that could encompass a year without a big increase in page count. In October of last year, Martin said he was about 75% done with The Winds of Winter.

Martin also told the Bangcast that there are eight more Game of Thrones' spin-offs in development, though only one of them has been officially greenlit. Martin said, "But I also have like eight other spin-off shows that we're developing. The Dunk and Egg show has been greenlit. The others, not yet, but we're still working on them."

The Dunk and Egg spin-off will adapt Martin's novellas about Ser Duncan the Tall and King Aegon V Targaryen, ninety years before the events of Game of Thrones. Other potential spin-offs include a currently-in-limbo sequel show about Jon Snow and a prequel set 10,000 years before the original show called 10,000 Ships. The second season of House of the Dragon just finished filming its second season.
