The Twilight Zone Is Coming Back With A Great Producer Behind It

CBS is rebooting the acclaimed TV show with Jordan Peele.

The Twilight Zone, one of the best, most thought-provoking, and unsettling TV shows ever, is getting rebooted. A new spin on the famous show created by Rod Serling is in the works, Leslie Moonves, the CEO of Twilight Zone rights-holder CBS, announced on an earnings call today. Even more exciting is the talent apparently behind it. According to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, Jordan Peele's production company, Monkeyaw, is set to produce it, with Sons of Anarchy and Daredevil writer Marco Ramirez attached to write the script and lead the show as its showrunner.

The Emmy-winning show originally ran from 1959-1964, with revivals in the 1980s and early 2000s, along with a movie. The newest revival is set to air on CBS All-Access, the company's streaming service that also hosts Star Trek: Discovery.

CBS, which owns GameSpot, tried to reboot The Twilight Zone in 2012 with X-Men producer Bryan Singer, but it did not come together.

Peele has a strong comedy background with shows like Key & Peele and The Last OG, but he stepped into more serious water with this critically acclaimed horror film Get Out. Peele is also working on a Nazi-hunting TV show. Part of what made the original Twilight Zone great was its writing and themes that covered things like the desperation and struggles of being alive.

Many famous actors appeared on the first iteration of The Twilight Zone, including Ed Wynn, William Shatner, Cloris Leachman, Don Rickles, and Robert Duvall, among many others.

There are many more details still to be confirmed about the new Twilight Zone. Right now we don't know if CBS has ordered it straight to series or if Moonves was only talking about kicking off production in some capacity. There is also no word as of yet as to who will star in the show, or if it will be an anthology series like the original. No release date has been set for the reboot, but we're excited about it and will report back with more details as they become available.

Here's hoping they do it right.

I hope they do better with single-episode stories than long story arcs... SoA was a rambling mess the further it went along.

Hopefully Outer Limits soon follows.

They just don't write like they used to. The twilight zone was and is an AMAZING show. I'll check the new one out simply due to curiosity, but I don't anticipate it being any good. Black mirror is the closest thing and is a great show in its own right. However, I feel black mirror needs around an hour or so to develop the story, make u relate, empathize or sympathize with the character(s) to really emphasize the twist that comes at the end. The twilight zone could do it in 25 minute episodes. Just my opinion.

Every time they reboot it it's not nearly as good as the original masterpiece of story telling that is Twilight Zone. Even Rod Serling could not recapture it when he tried it with other shows. It's just one of those things.

Although the 80s movie or whenever it was when they retold some of the original stories was bananas.

Netflix's Black Mirror is the 21st century Twilight Zone.

@Byshop: Peele's production house, not the man himself...the showruner is one of the writers on SOA and Daredevil, that IMO is certified hands, SOA was awesome, daredevil is great too...

It needs to be in black in white, the host needs to be wearing a suit, and he needs to be smoking. Also, dig up Burgess Meridith.

@medusajoe: Earlier this year, Levine told a public Q&A that the project was "in flux." CBS probably got cold feet with it and decided to go with a more standard form for the new version, especially once it attracted Jordan Peele.

Don't frack it up CBS......Twilight Zone is one of the best sorta horror shows out there.....

really TZ is one of the best social, political commentary & and sci-fi shows ever made next to Outer Limits [but TOL was more horror lol] I was born way after the original run and I still got into it big time.....

if I was reviving it i'd film every episode in black & white, in widescreen but in B&W lol

i watch the original all the time, just remaster them and show those

@dev-raid1: They've already been remastered and look gorgeous in 1080p. (Well, all of them except for the ones from the 2nd season that were shot on video tape. Those look like, well, video tape.) That's the problem: the classic episodes are already saturated. The potential profit from them is limited. Fans likely already own them either on DVD or Blu-ray, or regularly stream them on Netflix.
