The Super Mario Bros. Movie Passes Incredibles 2 On All-Time Animated List

The film has earned $1.249 billion, pushing ahead of The Incredibles 2.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still in theaters and making money, enough to help continue to push the movie up the charts. It is now even higher up on the all-time list of highest-grossing animated movies worldwide.

The movie now stands at $1.249 billion globally, which puts its ahead of The Incredibles 2 ($1.242 billion). The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now No. 4 all-time on the animated movies charts, still trailing Frozen ($1.28 billion), Frozen II ($1.45 billion), and The Lion King's remake ($1.6 billion).

Disney owns seven of the top 10 spots on the all-time list for animated movies. The only non-Disney movies on the chart belong to Universal, and they include Despicable Me, Minions, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Here are the highest-grossing animated movies of all time:

  1. The Lion King -- $1.66 billion
  2. Frozen 2 -- $1.45 billion
  3. Frozen -- $1.28 billion
  4. The Super Mario Bros. Movie -- $1.249 billion
  5. Incredibles 2 -- $1.24 billion
  6. Minions -- $1.16 billion
  7. Toy Story 4 -- $1.073 billion
  8. Toy Story 3 -- $1.067 billion
  9. Despicable Me 3 -- $1.034 billion
  10. Finding Dory -- $1.029 billion

Looking beyond just animated movies, The Super Mario Bros. Movie now sits at No. 21 all-time, ahead of films like The Dark Knight Rises, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Aquaman, The Fate of the Furious, and more.

Given the massive commercial success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, many are wondering if a sequel will be made, and it sure looks like that's going to happen.
