The Suicide Squad's Daniela Melchior Joins Guardians 3 But Not As Moondragon

Further mystery swirls around the previously teased "unannounced actor" in this third film, who is confirmed not to be Melchior.

Actor Daniela Melchior will have a "small role" in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, according to a Deadline report that was subsequently confirmed by writer-director James Gunn. Melchior's role hasn't been revealed yet, but Gunn has reaffirmed that she will not be portraying Moondragon.

Filming wrapped on the trilogy-completing sequel in early May. To mark the occasion, Gunn shared a photo of him with nearly all the main stars--though many noticed that Zoe Saldaña, who plays Gamora, was noticeably missing. Gunn explained at the time he did not post a picture of Saldaña because the only photo he has of her includes an "unannounced actor" that will appear in the film--though, intriguingly, this new report reveals that mystery actor is not Melchior. It's also not Keanu Reeves, as has been widely speculated.

I can confirm (and confirm she’s wonderful in the role). @MelchiorDaniela is one of my favorite people & actors around, & I hope this is just the second of many projects we’ll work on together. https://t.co/axKiZatcue

Gunn announced back in January that Vol. 3 will be his final Guardians film. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. In addition to the standard cast--Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Saldaña, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel--the movie will star Will Poulter as Adam Warlock. Actor Chukwudi Iwuji also features in the film, and he currently plays the role of Murn in Gunn's Peacemaker series.

The latest Marvel movie is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After that comes the Ms. Marvel TV series in June, and then Thor: Love and Thunder in July.

Melchior will also appear in Fast X, due out May 19, 2023.
