The Station Turns on the Charm

Dating Game Online gets beta. Would you like to check your hair?

With Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune already boasting online versions, it shouldn't be very surprising to learn that more online games based on TV game shows are on the way. And in fact, the latest of those TV-to-online conversions is in its final beta test. Sony started the final fine-tuning of its Dating Game Online on The Station web site today.

In this version of the game, which endeavors to maintain the campy atmosphere of the original '60s game show, players can take on different personas and then use their "wit, humor, and charm in a flirtatious multiplayer environment."

Players can participate in this dating game as contestant, chooser, or audience member. The chooser poses questions (there's a database of questions players can choose from, or they can make up some of their own) to contestants, then picks one of those contestants for a "virtual date" in a private chat room. Sony is encouraging players not to give out any actual personal info or e-mail addresses. (One expects there's a very good legal reason for that encouragement.)

Participants in this dating game must be registered as Station members.
