The Sims 4 does not require Internet connection

EA and Maxis confirm upcoming PC and Mac game is single-player offline experience.

The Sims 4 will not require an Internet connection, Electronic Arts and developer Maxis confirmed today following the game's announcement.

No Caption Provided

EA described The Sims 4 as a game that celebrates the "heart and soul of the Sims themselves" through a single-player offline experience.

"The Sims 4 encourages players to personalize their world with new and intuitive tools while offering them the ability to effortlessly share their creativity with friends and fans," EA said in a statement.

Maxis' last project--SimCity--drew significant controversy for its always-online requirement. EA claimed the game's broadband mandate was necessary for gameplay purposes and was not in any way a form of DRM.

SimCity's launch was marred by server woes that left the game unplayable for some. In response to frustrations over the game's issues, EA gave out free games.

The Sims 4 will launch in 2014 for PC and Mac. It is the first core entry in the series since 2009's The The Sims 3.

Great. Now give us SimCity without the internet connection requirement. They've got their games bass-ackward, if you ask me.

If it requires Origin, which all EA games on PC do now, then yes it does require internet connection.

Well, thats at least something.

I'd rather not buy $400 in DLC though.

Well if it doesn't contain AO drm, then that's one problem down.

Now if they would just create a core sims 4 that isn't limited in features and gameplay. Was it sims 3 where you had to get the first expansion just to build a basement?

And like after 3 or 4 expansions, the game ran like shit.

Really, you mean you're not going to force an inherently single player game to be online only and claim the servers are doing a significant amount of offloading work from the clients? But how will you stop all the evil pirates from cracking the game and its 100 expansions?

This is kind of like a dog pointedly peeing outside after having previously upset you by peeing on the rug.

@Mickeyminime I stopped buying them because with each subsequent expansion the game would run and load slower and slower which is a huge problem when you've got expansions like World Adventures making you load more often. I really hope 4 is programmed better.

@catsimboy @Mickeyminime my brother has them all downloaded and he never seemed to get any slowness be it loading or game play. He's computer is 10 times better than mine so it might be due to the ram or something else. I know Sims 1 & 2 used to slow down, but Sims 3 for me at the moment out of the 5 games i have for it work fine. But thats only 5 out of the couple dozen they have. I stopped buying them because some are still £20+ and its not worth it if you don't always play it. Hopefully there will be so much more in Sims 4, most of all, i hope they bring out the superstar expansion for it. I enjoyed it on Sims 1 and never saw it ever get made again for the other ones :(

Okay EA, you now realise that always online was a big mistake. Now remove it from Sim City?

Poor Sim City, it was just a test. A bait. To see how always-online works for the publisher (I know it sold more than 1 million but look at the negative hype, destroyed brand and angry consumers).

It was a test and since it failed, Sims 4 will be like any normal, non-MMO.

An ea game with no drm ????!!!! Seems wierd, probably it's gonna be a micro-transaction orgy-fest. See with ea, they have to find something to rob you with, EA "F**KING YOU IN THE GAME"

LMAO! I love how they have to make sure and state that it will not be a giant fail at launch that Simcity was. **** this developer I don't trust them anymore. It's not even the blatant lying either, it's the fact that they think their user base is stupid and they wanted to capitalize on it.

@WingChopMasta truth be told, majority of people around the world generally speaking are stupid....in accordance to that the majority of gamers must be stupid as well...you know all those insurance scams, nigerian letters, etc. you (or any person) would not think to ever fall for, people fall for those on a daily basis, the majority of people do...and so of course majority of gamers as well fall for traps and talks...easy, as a axiom you must use people are inherently stupid instead of inherently wise

So why does everyone hate EA. They are in the business of making money. I personally hate cloud gaming. But I am not sure how this going to work. Its full online or none at all.

There's got to be a catch. The full version of the game is online, but a stripped down demo is playable offline. Never take EA at face value.

This is what gaming is being reduced to. Cheers and clapping for something elementary.

In 2016, people will be cheering and clapping because game company releases game that actually allows you to play for 1 hour at a time.

Honestly, the Sims franchise seems far more suitable to always-on social gameplay than SimCity. I wonder if Sims4 was going to be an always-on game.

Well Atleast they are learning. Far away from getting away from their branding as a horrible company. However it's about time that they start listening. If a company does not evolve with its customer base, they will be out of the cold.

Are they sure they don't want to put it in just for kicks. Not that I'll get the game anyway. Boycotting EA games for the best part of a year now has saved me both on money and disappointment and from what I've seen I really haven't missed much.
