The Rock Working With Jumanji Director Again On New Netflix Movie
Dwayne Johnson will play the American folk hero John Henry.
Following the big success of the new Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and director Jake Kasdan are teaming up again for a new Netflix movie. The streaming giant announced today that it bought the rights to an "original pitch" for a movie titled John Henry and The Stateseman. It's written by The Lego Ninjago Movie's Tom Wheeler.
Kasdan will direct and The Rock will star as the titular American folk hero. The film will also feature an "ensemble cast of the most popular figures from folklore and legend from all around the world." The first teaser can be seen below, though it's more of a mood piece that references Henry's prowess as a steel-driving railroad worker, using the Johnny Cash song "The Man Comes Around."

This is The Rock's first movie for Netflix. "Netflix is the perfect partner and platform for us to continue entertaining our global audience in a disruptive way," he said in a statement. "These diverse characters speak to a legacy of storytelling that is more relevant than ever and span across a worldwide audience regardless of age, gender, race or geography."
Netflix has not yet set a release date for John Henry and the Statesman. Some of The Rock's other upcoming film projects include a Jumanji sequel, which he's also working with Kasdan on, as well as the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw.
