The Rock was apparently asked to host and he turned it down.

After a few years with no host, the Academy has announced that there will be not one but three hosts for this year's Oscars. The hosts will be Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes.

2021's Oscars had the worst ratings in the show's history, and the show hasn't had a "normal" year with a host since 2018. This year's Oscars event returns to the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, and vaccination is not required for attendees (though a recent negative test is necessary).

"We want people to get ready to have a good time. It's been a while," Hall, Schumer, and Sykes said in a statement.

According to Deadline, The Academy reached out to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to ask if he wanted to host, and he reportedly said no. The organization also looked for pairings, including Pete Davidson and John Mulaney and Steve Martin and Martin Short, but those offers didn't work out either, the report said.

According to the report, Hall, Schumer, and Sykes will each host a segment of the broadcast solo, and presumably there will be moments when all three are together on stage as well.

The 94th Academy Awards will take place Sunday, March 27, starting at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET on ABC.

The Power of the Dog leads the 94th Academy Awards with nine nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Jane Campion. The other nine movies nominated for Best Picture are Coda, Don't Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, and West Side Story.
