The Order 1886 Dev Denies "Five Hour" Claim

Studio exec says internal tests put normal game length between eight and ten hours.

One of the principal developers at Ready At Dawn, the California studio responsible for The Order: 1886, has responded to mounting questions regarding the apparently short length of the game's campaign.

On Sunday, a video emerged on YouTube showing the full game being played, seemingly as fast as possible, and finishing in about five hours. This deliberate speedrun led some to suggest that the campaign length is five hours long as standard.

However, Ready At Dawn's chief technical officer Andrea Pessino has challenged this assumption. One day after insisting he would not respond to "clickbait rumors about game length," Pessino was asked at a press conference in Milan on the very subject.

According to paraphrases published by Dualshockers, Pessino claimed that "at a normal pace and difficulty level, you can finish the game in a window between eight and ten hours".

He is also reported to have said that playing in hard mode would require at least twelve hours' play. These figures, he told journalists, were calculated by Ready At Dawn's internal teams.

Controversy surrounding The Order: 1886's game length has encouraged a debate on whether, and to what extent, gameplay duration is a factor in overall value.

The Order: 1886 ships across Europe and North America on Friday, February 20.

it doesn't really bother me i've been playing these type of games for years and enjoy them so i'm not really all that worried. and the game length i think instead of a general time frame, people have to remeber a play through of the game is different fro everyone so the length is going to vary alot from person to person in my opinion.

It doesn't worry me that the game length is approx 5-6 hours long.

What does bother me is the $60 price tag for a game that is approx 5-6 hours long, essentially a game you could finish in less than one day.

Also it sucks to me that at least 2 hours of the apparent 5hr game are un-skippable cut scene's.

I'll still play it, but it'll be a rental at best or get it on a huge discounted sale on Amazon or Gamestop.

This game will be $35 or less in a month. Betcha.

I would not pay $60-70 for a 10 hour game. At best, this is something you would get from Gamefly and play it over a weekend.

Also, many people do not care about "Hard" difficulty. Most people just want to play it on normal or the easiest setting possible and clear the game for the story.

its an action game not an rpg or sandbox type of game (i.e. assassins creed/gta etc.). it claims to be about 8-10 hours in length.halo and gears were about 3-5 hrs maybe eight.

These short as hell games need to lower their retail price... Final Fantasy VII took me 44 hours to beat and I spent $40 on it (Very well preserved, even came with PS Underground Card, despite it was labeled as 'used') I thought it was definitely worth that, and it's even around a QUARTER of that price on Steam, though I always prefer the original console it was exclusively released for. Something to spend a few weeks to a month on, and something to play once or twice a year. I don't need to spend $60 on a game that takes me under 10 hours to beat and not feel like it could be played again. Though I will have to agree that it may have to depend on how well the story's told. The Last of Us is my only exception when it comes to game length. I only beat it in two sittings, since I was on vacation from work, it probably had one of the best stories I've ever witnessed, maybe even the best! Even though I'm absolutely sick of zombies.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I agree. If I'm going to pay $60 for a game, I'm paying for both longevity and great gameplay. Graphics are just a perk. Can't enjoy the graphics if I can't enjoy the gameplay for a extended period of time.

I watched about 2 hours of it's gameplay. Looks incredible and extremely well delivered. However, yes, no replay value at all.

Looks like my predictions about the game are going to pan out yet again. The game will be decent but lack any kind of replay value.this is not the system seller all the Sony fanboys have been proclaiming it as.

Can you really determine quality of gameplay by watching a video of a game? Don't you need a controller in your hands to know how it feels?

Many games can be clocked in short times. Sometimes even insane times. Doesn't mean people will actually take that long. And since when has youtube been a credible source. I find out length on friday. When it's actually out.

So, can we just summarize as follows?

1. The Order: 1886 can be finished in 5.5 hours under some circumstances.

2. The Order: 1886 can take longer to finish under other circumstances.

3. No one knows whether the game is actually any good.

4. Many people need $60 games to be longer than 8-10 hours (and that's okay)

5. Many people don't (and that's also okay)

Means absolutely nothing.
There are videos of Dark Soul speed runs of under 2 hours.... Doesn't mean that the game has 2 hour worth of play value.
Not saying anything about the game itself (seems like a generic GoW G shooter, if you ask me)

yeah cause gears was the 1st game ever to use a cover from fire or a cover fire system, Right? look up cover systems and im sure you'll find games much older than gears utilized some sort of cover system.
