The Office Cast Reunites In This Nice Picture, But Still No Word On A Reboot

Would you like to see The Office get rebooted?

The revival/reboot era of television is truly in full swing, with shows like Full House, Roseanne, Twin Peaks, Will & Grace, and many others returning after years away with varying degrees of success. Could the American version of The Office be next? There have been a few reports stating the show is coming back, but NBC has yet to make any official announcements.

While we wait for official word, the teases for an Office revival continue. Angela Kinsey, who played Angela from accounting on the show, posted a picture on Twitter today of herself and (almost) all of the main cast attending some kind of get-together. The gathering, whatever it was for, took place at the home of Greg Daniels, who famously adapted Ricky Gervais' The Office for American TV.

Now Playing: The 13 Biggest TV Shows To Watch - Fall 2018

Pictured here are Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute), Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly), Leslie David Baker (Stanley Hudson), Brian Baumgartner (Kevin Malone), Ed Helms (Andy Bernard), Paul Liberstein (Toby Flenderson), Phyllis Smith (Phyllis Vance), Creed Bratton (Creed Bratton), and Oscar Nunez (Oscar Martinez), along with Kinsey and Daniels.

As you'll immediately notice, some people are missing. John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert, is nowhere to be seen, nor is Steve Carrel, the glue that held the show together with his character Michael Scott. According to one report, the character Michael Scott won't be in the reboot, with the show instead bringing in a new boss. As for Krasinski, there are any number of reasons as to why he wasn't in the picture, though intriguingly he re-tweeted Kinsey's picture today. Also missing are B.J. Novak (Ryan Howard) and Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor), who in addition to their acting duties, wrote some episodes of The Office. Kate Flannery, who played Meredith Palmer, is also nowhere to be seen, nor are any of the characters from the newer seasons such as Ellie Kemper (Erin Hannon).

Back in July, Krasinski said he would love to reunite with his Office castmates for something new; he called them his family. Krasinski also said he thinks The Office could return as a one-off Christmas special.

On a November episode of Saturday Night Live, Carrel trolled the audience with a playful opening monologue in which cast members talked about bringing the show back because they need the money. Even Carrel's real-life family urged him to do it. You can watch the silly segment below.

Before that, Carell said in an interview that he thinks it's a bad idea to bring back The Office. Not only should the show not come back, but it also might not work if it has a similar tone.

"The climate's different. I mean, the whole idea of that character, Michael Scott, so much of it was predicated on inappropriate behavior."

Michael Scott being out-of-touch and kind of a jerk is the point, Carell said, but this attitude probably wouldn't fly in 2018. "A lot of what is depicted on that show is completely wrong-minded. That's the point, you know? But I just don't know how that would fly now. There's a very high awareness of offensive things today--which is good, for sure. But at the same time, when you take a character like that too literally, it doesn't really work," he said.

Whoever decided to give Ed Helms a bigger role in that show deserves to be shat upon by a whale that ate White Castle.

@timthegem: In this scenario...I am assuming we are talking about a toothed whale and not a baleen whale? However, does the whale have a mobile aquarium to hit the drive through or are we talking an underwater White Castle. Both scenarios would have a major effect on how this individual will be shat upon.

No Jim or Michael(!!) no dice. Thanks for the reminder of what a full series The Office re-boot would look like.

The show hit its stride within a few seasons and everyone involved (viewers, writers, etc..,) learned how intricate Michael Scott was upon the reception of the last few seasons when it seemed as if it was desperately searching for a new identity. From beginning to end it was always fun watching so I could see how Scranton was portrayed compared with the reality of the city i.e. there isn't a Hooters out here even though the show had one included in an early episode. If a reboot could not be done correctly, it should never come to fruition and we all know how the sensitive groups of society would cry with anything similar to the original. TBH I'm surprised the reruns still air with all the babies out there today who must be perpetually offended.

There's far too many feminist/soyboi's/ sensitive pc groups to let this show go on how it did. Sad to say, but this show would end up being the taboo show to watch and probably be viewed as extreme nowadays. What made Michael Scott so likable was him being out-of-touch with anyone else on the planet and offend everyone around him (even people he loved/liked). Kids would end up with PTSD after watching the show now.

This show is better left alone - the last handful of seasons were barely watchable, and without Michael Scott the show limped to the finish line.

Leave it be.

@DanieltheDead: Yeah I agree. It was like watching the Bulls after Jordan left. Just a complete waste of time.

The office aired during a time when comedy was allowed to be irreverent and edgy. Nowadays, the puritan left (who dominate Hollywood) wouldn't allow anything like the office to air. I mean, can you even name a great comedy from the last few years? I can't. They're all bland and immediately forgettable.

@yangwenli1: Not really sure what to say if you think The Office was irreverent and edgy. The Amercian version of the Office was neither of those things and was extremely tame. There is far more "irreverent and edgy" stuff on TV these days and better shows than The Office. Just looking at NBC, The Good Place is fantastic.

@hosedandhappy: I've seen the good place. It's fun, but certainly not edgy. There are tons of jokes in the office that if aired today, people would freak out over.

If I had two bullets in a room with Toby and Zarya I'd shoot myself. Twice.

@HesamB: It did decent after he left but steve said they'd have the change a lot of the humor due to liberals. Rewatching the show the first few seasons were incredibly racist and that wouldn't fly today too many snowflakes.
