The Mummy is Revealed in New Photos from Upcoming Monster Movie Reboot
Universal's classic monster movie franchise kicks off next year with The Mummy, which is currently shooting in London. We've already seen images of star Tom Cruise on set, and now pictures of Sofia Boutella, playing the bandaged creature of the title, have emerged. Check them out via Just Jared.
The film is set for a June 2017 release, and is being directed by Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the first two Star Trek movies in the current reboot series. Russell Crowe is set to make an appearance as Dr Jekyll, and is expected to then reprise the role in a Jeykll and Hyde film.
It has also been reported that that Johnny Depp will star in The Invisible Man, while Dwayne Johnson is rumoured to be in consideration to play The Wolfman. While the titles of any movies beyond The Mummy are yet to be announced, Universal have scheduled further films in the series for April 2018 and February 2019.
In May, Crowe spoke about working with Kurtzman on the upcoming chiller. "He knows how to get something from an idea on the page onto a soundstage and into a camera," he told Collider. "Sure, I would imagine he's scared sh*tless right about now, and having a hard time sleeping because he's got ten million things on his mind right now. But when we started talking about this idea, there were a few things I put up in the air and he picked up on them.
"Those kinds of creative collaborative conversations, if somebody says something that goes off in your mind and that other person bounces off of that, you're actually in a really good place."
