The Last of Us Part 2 Trailer Track Reaches #1 on UK Spotify Viral 50 Chart
and musician Shawn James is suitably chuffed.
The announcement trailer (above) for The Last of Us Part II was released during The Game Awards 2016, and featured Ellie playing a soulful and poignant song originally written by Shawn James & The Shapeshifters, on the album Shadows.
During the trailer, a blood-drenched Ellie tunes and plays an old acoustic guitar. A figure—presumably Joel—enters the house she occupies, and walks through a trail of carnage that leads to the bed where Ellie sits and sings.
The song contains the lyrics “My mind and my gun they comfort me, because I know I’ll kill my enemies when they come,” and “I can’t walk on the path of the right because I’m wrong.” Ellie looks physically and mentally pained as she sings about a world that’s too far gone, “but I said how can you save the world from itself.”
Since the release of the trailer, the song has skyrocketed up Spotify’s UK Viral 50 charts, reaching number one today.
If his Twitter account is anything to go by, James seems beside himself with excitement at his newfound popularity.

The Last of Us Part II is still in early development, with no release date announced. Players will take on the role of Ellie this time around, with Westworld writer Halley Gross confirmed as working on the “intense” project. Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us director Bruce Straley is taking a break, however, on a year-long sabbatical.
