HBO's The Last of Us TV series continues to put up big viewership numbers. The much-loved "Long Long Time" episode--which focused on Bill and Frank and deviates significantly from the source material--reached 6.4 million people for its Sunday night viewership across HBO and HBO Max.

This is up 12% compared to Episode 2's Sunday night viewership of 5.7 million and it's a 37% increase from the 4.7 million people who watched the series premiere on January 15.

Sunday night viewership typically represents 20%-40% of an episode's total numbers, so the figures for Episode 3 should grow substantially in the days to come as more and more people watch.

Episodes 1 and 2 of The Last of Us are averaging 21.3 million viewers, so Episode 3's final figures should be around there if history is any indication. For comparison, the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon reached an average of 29 million viewers per episode.

Here are some additional viewership statistics about HBO's most popular shows based on average views:

  • House of the Dragon, season 1: 29 million viewers
  • The Last of Us, season 1: 21.3 million viewers
  • Euphoria, season 2: 19.5 million viewers
  • The White Lotus, season 2: 15.5 million viewers

Long Long Time told the story of Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) and its plot was biggest deviation from the game so far. For more on the episode, check out GameSpot's breakdown and the video above, both of which contain massive spoilers.

New episodes of The Last of Us air Sunday nights on HBO, leading up to the Season 1 finale on March 12. HBO just recently announced that Season 2 is in the works, and fans believe it will follow the events of The Last of Us: Part II, and introduce Abby, among other characters.
