The Last Of Us Co-Creator Neil Druckmann Wraps On HBO Series

No release date has been announced for the adaptation, but production is steadily progressing.

Game director Neil Druckmann has announced that his "time in Canada has come to an end" working as a co-writer, executive producer, and director on the upcoming HBO adaptation of his popular PlayStation series The Last of Us. Druckmann shared the news via social media with a photo of a clapper board revealing that he has also directed an unspecified episode.

In August, director Kantemir Balagov made a similar announcement signaling that his work on the first episode was finished. Note that the first episode is not a pilot, because HBO gave The Last of Us a straight-to-series order. The series will star Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the leading roles, with Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann writing the project together. Druckmann said the series will deviate significantly from the games. In October, lots of images and even a few videos have been posted to social media from the set.

As for the game series, Naughty Dog might make The Last of Us 3, or potentially a new IP, as its next game. On the more immediate horizon, Naughty Dog is developing a standalone Last of Us multiplayer game. In other news, a recent report said Naughty Dog is also working on a Last of Us remake for PS5.

There is no word yet on when the HBO Last of Us TV show will debut, but it's just one of the many TV shows and films in the works based on Sony properties. In fact, Sony has at least 10 of these projects in the works, one of which is a Twisted Metal TV show starring Anthony Mackie.
