"The Last Call Of Duty" Has Sold 30 Million Copies, Nvidia CEO Says

The CEO of Nvidia shares some insight on just how massive the Call of Duty series is.

Activision has already said that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has performed exceptionally well in terms of sales and players, but the company has never shared a specific unit sales number for the military shooter.

While Activision is keeping quiet, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said as part of his company's big RTX announcement event that "the last Call of Duty" has sold 30 million copies.

His comment came as part of a wider discussion about how this year's new game, Black Ops Cold War, will feature a range of upgrades on PC with Nvidia tech, including ray-tracing.

We have followed up with Activision in an attempt to get more details and clarity surrounding Huang's comments.

In August, Activision said Modern Warfare enjoyed incredibly strong results due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic that's keeping people at home playing games. Thanks to cross-promotion with the free-to-play Warzone, Modern Warfare added more new players outside of a launch quarter than ever before in Call of Duty's history.

Modern Warfare was performing well before the pandemic, too, as launch sales of the title in November 2019 were the highest for any Call of Duty game this console generation.

Black Ops Cold War is due to launch on November 13 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and it will cost $10 extra to buy the cross-gen bundle that gets you an upgrade to the next-gen edition.

I'll admit for the first time since BlackOps 1 I jumped back in for Modern Warfare because I enjoyed the original but I have zero interest in getting onto the yearly train again. Would have preferred they just kept updating Modern Warfare honestly but warzone is slowly killing the multiplayer population and I have no interest in battle royale games and cross play PC hackers are ruining the fun of my favourite multiplayer modes.

Activision is certainly doing well. Time for some layoffs.

In my opinion cod sucks pretty hard as a FPS franchise... I'd argue Duke Nukem has done more for the FPS world and that franchise is doing nothing right now...

Just tired of it being the same feeling game for the past near 2 decades... Every freakin year lol. I'd be shocked if a year went down that DIDN'T have a new silly bro shooter from the cod fish franchise...

Extra tired of crapdivisions dirty wallet robbing shenanigans around pay to win/micros/dlc/online only/cut content/unfinished launches etc etc...

If you're into this franchise a lil I can get that... There is some fun to be had as it's not all 100% trash. But if you're buying the new cod full price at launch every year and also tossing them extra money for goofy editions, micros, dlc etc etc... Ugh... That's pretty sheepish lol. No offense... I wonder if they could put literally dog doo doo on the game stop shelf and you would buy it just because it said cod on the side of it...
