The Justice League Zack Snyder Cut Will Release On HBO Max In 2021

The Snyder Cut is real and original Justice League director Zack Snyder has announced it will debut on the HBO Max streaming service in 2021.

It's official. A different cut of the movie Justice League from original director Zack Snyder is in the works and it will be released on HBO Max in 2021. The director announced the news during an online Q&A for Man of Steel. Some fans have been clamoring for the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League since the director stepped down from the film and Joss Whedon took over as director. Now they'll get it, sort of.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder revealed that the project will be "an entirely new thing." What does that mean? "You probably saw one-fourth of what I did," the director said of the theatrical cut of the movie. Now, with the upcoming HBO Max streaming service, Snyder had an outlet for the project.

Those who believed a version of the movie existed that was ready are going to be slightly disappointed. It turns out the truth of the matter is that Snyder walked away from the project following the death of his daughter with an unfinished cut that has no visual effects or post-production work done to it. But, after screening what he had for Warner Bros. and DC executives, they were interested.

Now it's going to become a reality, though the timeline is a little foggy. Snyder said he has reached out to the movie's cast, letting them know they may be called upon to help complete the project. Meanwhile, negotiations with those who can complete the visual effects and post-production are underway.

Also unknown is how the project will be presented. According to THR, it could be a four-hour cut of the film, or be divided into six separate "chapters," as if it were a TV series. Regardless, Snyder and his wife/producer Deborah Snyder are excited about sharing it with the audience. "This movie was the culmination of a hero’s journey that all these characters went on," she said. "And the idea was always to build them up to be the heroes people expected them to be."

At this point there is no specific release date for the project, other than the news that it will arrive next year.

Remember when the guy who places Aquaman said he had seen the Synder cut and thought it was really good? Now it seems the Synder cut isn't even close to completion.

So Aquaman lied when asked about it, and I have no idea why

Hey... that is a hard pass dude. Maybe work on something non-film like, a sex change or something - it kept the brothers .. now sisters that made the matrix movies busy for a couple decades. So no one would have to see anything more of their crap.

I guess it's cool but...

Where's the continuation of Justice League? Will we ever have a Justice League VS Darkseid movie? Wasn't that their original plan? I'm so out of the loop with DC movies at this point. I did watch Justice League but it was so bad that I genuinely didn't know at the time that it was considered the 'sequel' to Batman V Superman. I guess I wasn't absorbed in the movie enough to even get that what happens to Superman was even related to him from Batman V Superman to begin with.

At least Man of Steel was good. I'd rather watch a Man of Steel 2, but honestly the first one already had Zod so I'm not sure where a second movie for Superman alone could go. Maybe against Bizarro?

@rekonym: I don't think there is going to be a continuation of Justice League after this--at least, not a version with Snyder involved. It wound up being one of the most expensive movies ever made (about $300 million), and only made $657 million worldwide after everything was said and done--the film was a bomb, and lost the studio money. And given the success of Wonder Woman and most of their movies since Justice League, I don't see the studio going back to making a brand new movie with Snyder at the helm or his influence behind it.

DC deserves a Jim Lee or Mark Waid or Even Weirdo KevinSmith(Mallrats KS)

~KingdomCome

~Identity Crisis

~The Dark Knight Returns

~Hush

~The Long Halloween

~Injustice(The Comic Series)

*These are just off top of my Head stories that could translate well to movies or a Series.

*Infinite Crises showed that TV series could work.Mark Waido

~WE NEED BRANDON ROUTH & KEVIN CONROY.

Not this weird looking Superman with the even worse neck showing costume from upcoming Lois & Clark/Superman...

*Conroy showed that HE IS THE BATMAN!

We want the Batman story from that Earth where Konroys Batman kills the Justice League

because He is The Batman! It cost him his spine but we all know Batman was pushed over the edge by The Joker or Alred being killed or whatevs & this is the type of story we want..

But until this WOKE-WEIRD stops dominating our favorite Movies,Games & IP's= it's a lost cause for sure...

~As Far As The Snider Cut goes= yeah i'm excited.

But it's still wack af!

The Flash looks AWFUL!

~Ben Aflick is too boring to be The Batman. Or the script for his Batman is too lame. I dunno,

I do know I hate it/his Batman though.. I prefer the JaredLeto Joker over Afleck Batman..

~Cyborg is also POORLY WRITTEN.. So this Cyborg is all attitude and tough. Please!

They just needed a minority character.. They shoulda had John Stewart then..

Actually Green Lantern only works as a side character or villain..

He's just not a character that translates well to movies. Atleast not what we've ever seen..

Similar ot how Superman doesn't work as a VideoGame character cause he's too OP and it's too lame to have a Kryptonite this/that...

~~WonderWOman is fine although I like WW to be a lil more Warrior & less gentle..

She's supposed to have lust for Battle and she Kills! As eper a lifetime of training.

She oculd even be thousands of years old and been training that whole time to kill.

Meeting Steve Trevor wouldn't make her 100% stop imo...

~I love the WOnderWoman in the Newer Story where she has a MOhawk with the Batman Clone..

What a Awesome story for sure!

~Also about The Flash- WHY didf they Cast Ezra Miller???? He is nothing like The Flash.

I think the Flash as Blonde haired forensic evidence like Cop. Not some antiSopcial reject who is just outta HS...

*Another problem is These charcters alsways have their Origins told..

WE ALREADY KNOW WHO THEY ARE! Save Origins for down the road or Flashback.

Ezra MIller beating up that Girl is almost in-character for his Flash..

Flash looks like The Constantine Actor does IMO..

~The character is top 3 most powerful Justice League Meta HUmans and this is what they give us..

So between the Woke identity politics & the bad castings & even worse writing it's no wonder DCU is screwed...

@gamingdevil800: That Flash looks so stupid.

And the Actor is not a good fit.

~Afleck brings nothing to the character.

Even Alfred isn't good despite my love for the actor.

~Cyborg is poorly written & even worse acted.

And Steppenwolf is such a mediocre story that never in a million years been green lit..

@gamingdevil800: Once they released the Snyder cut of The Watchmen, it got so much better, (the theatrical version was good, but they had cut a lot out). The same applies to Sucker Punch.

You can see some of the raw footage that was cut from JL online, and it looks fucking awesome.

Who gave the go ahead on Steppenwolf anyways??

The absolute worse storylie villain ever..

*DC is sooo much better then what they delivered.

And this was before Sniders tragedy...

@aross2004: Sucker Punch was awful (not sure which cut I watched though) long blasting musical action sequences every time she danced and I'm basing my assumption on his record with every other DCEU movie he directed.

This seems like a huge slap in the face to Joss Whedon, but who cares? The movie sucked. Even if they just re-filmed all of Henry Cavill's scenes with the stupid mustache it would be a better film.

Lol. No thanks. Zack Snyder gives Michael Bay competition for the title of World’s Worst Director. That movie was already terrible.

@Poodger: I do agree with you. I liked a few of his older ones, but I also liked a few old Michael Bay movies. The problem is they’ve both made nothing but bad movies for the past several years.

@Baconstrip78: Sometimes a different movie is a better movie. I've seen extended editions of movies where one 30 second clip can make everything around it better. So I have no doubt some people will find the Snyder cut to be superior or more enjoyable. Snyder himself said the Justice League everyone saw was only 25% of his movie. That's quite massive.

Man, I don't know why anybody thinks the version of a bad movie that's more like the even worse movies before it is going to be something worth seeing, but I guess it fits with the rest of the decision making around the DC films.

@mogan: Snyder said the movie put out was only 25% of his actual work. So it no doubt could turn a lot of people's opinions around. It's also fair that if you detested the very premise of the movie, then you probably won't like any version of it.

Snyders cut could be a superior version, but how much more superior is certainly subjective.

Screw it, release it in its full 4 hour glory. Idk how much better this will be than the theatrical version, but at this point I'm sure anything would be a step up from that disaster. I'm curious to see how this will all play out over a year or so. Maybe it'll be so good, it will lead to a sequel in the form of an HBO Max original limited series that will bring back all the actors and will finish off his original vision of the entire story he had planned.

@kstaggs87: I think Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and even Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. are done with this particular vision of the DC movie universe after this. Given the success of most of their movies post Justice League, I don't see them going back to Snyder's vision on a permanent basis anytime soon.

I was expecting it a lot sooner! I feel DC need to get this out ASAP so they can gauge a reaction to adjust their future plans. I was hoping it would be more pivotal to the future of DCEU, being so far out makes it feel like a footnote release.

I'm not the biggest fan of how Snyder made his DC movies, not that I dislike them, it's just not what I would have liked to have seen done. That being said, I think it's worth rewatching how he wanted it to play out so I'm excited for this.
