At its launch party for Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood last night, Gearbox Software announced that it has so enjoyed using versions of Epic Games' Unreal Engine for the Brothers in Arms series that other game engines simply won't do. As proof, the company has committed to exclusively use Epic's Unreal Engine 3 technology in upcoming next-generation console and PC games based on Gearbox intellectual properties.

"We've used most of the major 3D engines on the market, and without a doubt Unreal Engine 3 is the best," said Gearbox president Randy Pitchford. "Epic's tools, technology, and support are fantastic."

Brothers in Arms 3 on the PlayStation 3 is the only game announced under the deal so far, though others are in the works. Gearbox's previous games include Half-Life: Counter-Strike, Half-Life expansion packs Blue Shift and Opposing Force, and the PC versions of Halo, Jame Bond 007: NightFire, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
