A new open-world survival crafting shooter game, The Front, has been announced, and the first trailer looks pretty impressive. The Front is set in an alternate reality "post-apocalyptic sandbox" filled with mutants, including killer clowns, as seen in the debut trailer that GameSpot can reveal exclusively. Players are fighting against an evil empire that's bent on changing humankind.

"Already stripped of their freedom, faith, and in many cases, life, humans are on the verge of finally losing that which they call home. The surviving members of humanity's resistance are hoping to use time travel technology to return to the past and correct the course of history," reads a line from the game's description.

In The Front, players must work together to stay alive as they craft weapons and equipment, build bases, drive vehicles, and fight hostile forces.

The Front's open world is 36km² in size and features multiple different biomes to explore, including forests, deserts, and terrain covered in snow. There is a day/night cycle and 10 different types of weather, including fog, thunderstorms, and blizzards. Players have to survive in the elements, and there are 10 "survival indices," including hunger, thirst, hypothermia, and infection.

The crafting system features 30 types of building modules and almost 100 components that players can use to create irrigation systems, defense towers, and more. There are more than 20 defensive items to use, including "meat grinders," poison gas, electrical devices that shock enemies, and catapults.

In terms of weaponry, players have access to "modern" weapons that can be customized with different sights, grips, and flashlights, while players can pilot land, air, and sea vehicles.

The Front is in development for PC, and its Steam page is now live. The game has not been announced for console or any other platforms.

The Front is in development at the newly established Singapore-based developer Samar Studio, a team made up of developers with experience making shooters and survival games. The Front is the debut title from Samar Studio.
