The Fallout series will return to Steam, says Bethesda

Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics removed from Steam at start of 2014 due to licensing issues.

Bethesda has said it is looking to bring the classic Fallout games back to Steam.

Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics were removed from digital distribution services at the start of 2014, with the rights to the older games in the series changing hands from Interplay Entertainment to Bethesda.

Explaining why the games had to be removed from Steam in the first place, Bethesda said "we have to remove existing publisher info, legal text, etc."

Bethesda gained the rights to all the Fallout games after a lawsuit between the two publishers ended earlier in 2012, with the former publisher now owning the merchandising rights to the series.

Retailer GOG.com, the first online retailer to offer the old Fallout games as digital downloads and knowing that it would soon lose the ability to sell the games on its storefront, offered the three games for free towards the end of 2013 as part of its holiday sale.

Will the Fallout trilogy ever return to GOG.com? "We’ll have a look at other options once we handle Steam," said Bethesda.

<< LINK REMOVED >>Gog has no DRM, that's it. Every other facet of the service is inferior to Steam.

@Thanatos2k@FlameBoyBenNot really since every single game you can get on GoG is superior compared to Steam , because they are much more updated and stable versions, and all of the different languages and/or extras are given for free too.

And honestly, actually owning the games you buy is not that bad either.

<< LINK REMOVED >>Heh I know that, but of course, its just a legal technicality, and GOG knows it obviously, hence why few developers/publishers allow them to have their games. You buy the game, get it, and you can use what you got for your money in whatever way you want without specifically altering it, its owned.

Now, I havent tried that game yet to compare the versions so I'd have to research feedback to tell you, however, it is pretty obvious what version is more convenient to have, even if its advantage is "delayed". On one side you got the devs updating the game, on the other, you got the devs and the "platform", its a small thing, but for some games it can be a bit less of trouble and/or stupid bugs to fix or look online.

Not really that important, but you got nothing to loose for it. Unless you like achievements i suppose. Does that game even have achievements? i dont know :p

@yeah_28 Wrong and wrong. Read your license agreement in the manual. You don't own shit. You absolutely do not have the right to do whatever you want with it. It sure as hell is not a GPL license.

Gog "takes a bit of extra care to improve it"? Bullshit. Let's look at a relatively new game: Shadowrun Returns. It's on GoG and it's on Steam. How is the GoG version more updated? How is it improved? How is it superior in any way? Or are you just making up nonsense?

@Thanatos2k@yeah_28 What license? i have the installer right here, wich doesnt need any other software or further permission, and i can do whatever i want with it, or give it to who i want.

And of course im serious, and im not lying (neither stupid hopefully), its basically what gog exists for, gog is a service meant to provide people with games that are reasonably updated and have the extras even when the devs/publisher/rights holder doesnt really care for those things, so they do the work for them. Thats the very basic foundation on what CD Project was built from the start.

In steam you get only what each game and the people in charge of it offer to you, while gog takes a bit of extra care to improve it, thats all. You can actually read one comment i saw in this article i think, where a guy says that the steam versions he got had bugs and some problems while the gog version was perfect. Bethesda has not updated fallout1,2 and tactics at all however, and yet the versions are still different. There are many other examples ive heard of too.

And i dont know why you think i dont like steam, i actually do like Steam, its good for what it is, even when everything has its ups and downs.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Just because the games are DRM free doesn't mean you own them. You still only possess a license to install and play them. You own nothing.

And you're seriously claiming that the same games are more stable and updated on GoG? "Every single game is superior"? You're lying or stupid.

Seriously, you can not like Steam, but when your only arguments about it are ignorant idiocy you might just want to keep that opinion to yourself.
