Launch of The Evil Within pushed back for development team to make additional refinements to the game.

Horror game The Evil Within has had its launch date pushed back to October, Bethesda has announced. The game will be released in North America on October 21, followed by October 23 for Australia and New Zealand, and October 24 in European territories.

The game's launch has been reportedly delayed to grant the development team additional time to make further balance changes and refinements to the game.

Developed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and his team at Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within will be published by Fallout and Elder Scrolls publisher Bethesda Softworks. Mikami has described the game as a true return to the roots of the survival horror genre.

The Evil Within was previously scheduled to launch in August for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Hope they fix those clunky animations, low res textures and other visual bugs.

But a serious note now, I hope this delay makes the game that much better :)

Any game can take all the time it needs as long as it doesn't have any real bugs when released. I applaud when companies take extra time.

This vs. Alien Isolation in October? Nice Halloween..

Avatar image for gamefreak215jd

<< LINK REMOVED >> And Batman Arkham Knight as well.

Shinji wants to do it right I think, like the RE4 version that was thrown out, the more time means they are making it better and really going in on this. It is worth the wait.. October? hell yes, perfect timing too. been waiting for this guy to make another survival horror game since his last RE game which was RE4. A lot of people don't realize that he had NOTHING to do with the resident Evil games AFTER RE4. hence why they all suck after that one, action packed crap.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Recent gameplay shown a graphical improvement for Evil Within so you should really take note on what you're commenting about :/

<< LINK REMOVED >> It already looks awful, so that shouldn't take much.

Meanwhile, Sony exclusives get pushed back to 2015.

Avatar image for RSM-HQ

<< LINK REMOVED >> e3 will show us the way, not yourself. One game is not exclusives, that's exclusive :P

For me it's The Evil Within, and hopefully Shadow of the Beast.

Getting a bit fed-up with constant game delays this 2014 year. Do they not have a wall-planner or something? Lol.

Avatar image for nl_skipper

Oh yea... not enough games coming out in Broketober as it is...

Well, I mean a delay is usually a good thing, but god damn, why does EVERY publisher release all their games in a 2 month span... people buy games when it's NOT close to Christmas too...

They prob look at the statistics and see that October is the highest grossing month in every year, sop they think they HAVE to release then or lose sales. When the reality of the situation is that month only sees so much revenue because it always has like 15 AAA releases... people buy games at other times too!

Survival-horror genre died the day they moved away from Fixed cam angles/tank controls. RE:0,Remake,2,3,CVX and Fatal Frame 2 along with the first Silent Hills will always remain the pinnacle of the genre.

Avatar image for RSM-HQ

<< LINK REMOVED >> That's one opinion.

I loved Resident Evil Remake, the last real decent fixed camera horror game. Critics and customers bashed its "primitive ways" and not many bought it.

I actually did and loved it, did you, & I mean really?

Not likely; not many did.

The genre needed to evolve and Resident Evil 4 was fantastic, less scary but just enough to keep the roots together.

Oven guy & Iron Maidens anyone?

& let's not discuss 0, for it was an extremely flawed game, scary indeed. But I got just as much out of it as Out Break and File 2.

Code and Frame came quite early in the 128 bit era so that's a tad obtuse to state. Siren would count better if they wasn't so flawed as games.

Avatar image for Nightelf123

<< LINK REMOVED >> the original RE,Dino Crisis and parasite eve franchises are also good examples of survival horror games too.

Avatar image for Random_Matt

Oh no, i shed a tear.

Avatar image for Nightelf123

I'm not sure survival-horror games become real scary with the behind the shoulder camera .

Avatar image for gamefreak215jd

<< LINK REMOVED >> Maybe but its actually the atmosphere and tension that matters. The weapons in this game are very simple like the usual handgun and shotgun both of which are kinda slow.

Avatar image for wookiegr

Evil waits for no -one, oh wait, evil have been delayed.

Avatar image for uncha1n3d

And the marathon of delays continues. October is going to be the battle for our wallets with Alien: Isolation, Lord of the Rings, Evolve, now this....tons of fun stuff, and funny enough, none require owning more than one console:p

Avatar image for Random_Matt

<< LINK REMOVED >> Mordor, it plays much like AC, whoop.

Avatar image for playstationzone

Well october seems right and aslo last gen game and still waiting for this game gen games.

October is already crazy crowded with games...sheesh!

Avatar image for spartanx169x

<< LINK REMOVED >> This Fall is going to be loaded with games. I'm concerned that some are going to get overlooked.

Avatar image for Scarf0

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> 9 games scheduled for the month of october..several games will be overlooked.

Avatar image for gantarat

delay make great game

Avatar image for atopp399

Probably to give developers more time to port last gen games to the PS4/Xbox One.

Avatar image for playstationzone

<< LINK REMOVED >> Worst year for ps4 and xboxone can it get any worst.

Avatar image for sohail5566

great another delay first it was witcher 3 now this

Avatar image for nl_skipper

<< LINK REMOVED >> At least TW3 had the sense to delay BEYOND the Fall season (rather than delay INTO that season), and into the new year when we'll be clambering for new titles.
