The Division Won't Have Player Trading System at Launch

But it could come later.

The Division will not include a gameplay system that allows players to buy and sell items with one another, at least not at launch. Associate creative director Julian Gerighty explained to GamesRadar why the feature, which was reportedly discussed prior to launch, won't make it into the game for its debut in March.

"It's the reality of production. Some features make it, some features don't," he said, adding that the decision came down to a "priority of different features."

Gerighty went on to say that, as The Division is an ongoing, evolving game, it's possible that a player trading system could come someday.

"It's something that obviously some people are very passionate about," he said. "It'll maybe make an appearance in the future."

Player trading systems aren't uncharted territory in games, as World of Warcraft has had such a system for years. Another Activision game, Destiny, may introduce player trading someday, too.

Other The Division features/systems discussed prior to launch but not included in the full game include sections in Brooklyn, a companion app, and paid level boost microtransactions.

The Division's closed beta begins January 28 on Xbox One for people who preordered the game. PS4 and PC players can jump in January 29; the pre-release play period ends on January 31 for all platforms.
