The Division Vs. Real Life -- How Accurate Is The Game?

Check out this video that compares virtual versions of The Empire State Building and the Brooklyn Bridge with their real-world counterparts.

Ubisoft's upcoming RPG shooter The Division is set in New York City, but how realistic is the game's depiction of The Big Apple? During a recent trip to NYC, Sony found out. The company today published a video through its PlayStation Access YouTube channel that compares the virtual versions of the Brooklyn Bridge and The Empire State Building to their real-world counterparts.

As you can see, Ubisoft did a pretty good job depicting those locations, as well as others like the James Farley Post Office Building and Madison Square Garden. Of course, The Division's presentation of NYC depicts a future version of the city after the entire United States has collapsed. As such, The Division's NYC is more rundown than what you'd see if you went there today.

The Division launches in 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. If you have not been blown away by the game yet, there is a possible explanation for that. "[The Division is] a very ambitious game. We are saving many of the most interesting parts for later," Ubisoft Massive managing director David Polfeldt told GameSpot in June. "We have a lot of interesting things in the game that were not shown [at E3]. So there's a lot to come."

Fore more on The Division, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Looks so accurate, it's like it's preparing New Yorkers for a doomsday =P

First time I saw the part of Division at 2:17 f^ckin' dead bodies everywhere, a shady 'open your eyes' on the wall and a body collection point sign on the wall, darker than it looks that game.

So we're still a long way from photo realistic. All a matter of lighting.

Microtransactions completely turned me off this game. I can't seem to drum up any sort of excitement since. Sigh.

@misternathan They're really doing microctransactions? Damn, another one bites the dust. I should have known this would be the case with douchers like ubisoft dev'ing the game...

That said I'm going to hold my final judgement until I see more and read more. It won't be a day 1 buy from me now.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Yup. Same. Though Ubisoft doesn't really do micro transactions beyond regular old DLC, so this is surprising. And I was so hopeful for this game.

They need money to maintain their servers

Is that surprising ? Every online game has that

Look at ESO it has monthly subscription

<< LINK REMOVED >> ^ sheep keep saying that you believe these micro transactions are paying for server. As technology has improved servers are getting cheaper and easier to maintain. You keep believing that. As technology advances things become cheaper...notice laptops are much cheaper, cell phones, tablets have come down in price also same with servers. Don't believe this server maintenance crap. If that's the case Sony would have stopped making consoles a long time ago when they were electing to give people free online access versus charging. It's only required now because they see people are willing to pay and wanted to take advantage of it. Their servers didn't get any better. Last I checked they still are getting hacked...and the network seems to be down multiple times a month for whatever reason. When I had a 360 the network was never down for maintenance every month...multiple times -_-...either way the point is micro transactions are not about maintenance its just about increasing revenue. When server were more expensive companies had no problem keeping servers up. games cost more with less content, then comes dlc , and season passes, then micro transaction.. soon there will be another way to milk the gamer and they'll say creating games are expensive foh

Cost less doesn't equal free. They still require maintenance.

Oh well, can't hate them if that's what they're comfortable with, but I wish we'd see some more places sometimes...

I will get my brand new GTX 880 when it's out and my dear UBI, I hope you do justice to PC gamers who have paid a lot of money for the hardware to experience these games the way they are meant to be. Make the PS4/X1 versions very beautiful; that's the right thing to do, they are 'next gen systems'. BUT, when it comes to a few extra bits of eye candy and optimization, please don't forget the PC. This is a sincere request.

Of course the vertical slices show the best of the game. That's how it is with all games. You have to wait until you can see the entire thing to determine if it's as good as they claim it to be.

Don't really understand the hype behind this game, yeah nyc is pretty cool but.. It just looks like a normal cover based shooter to me. Cover based shooters cut out the freedom of traditional shooters... I hate that crap where your body just suction-cups to every single object like the entire game is just a quicktime event like gears of war.

All ubisoft knows how to do these days is make a game look cool, they are focused 100% on getting you to buy it. They couldn't care less about combat balance or proper gameplay mechanics.

I can just tell this game is ubisofts marketing glue. Saying stuff like "control your drone on your ipad from home" is a pretty big red flag.. Next it will be plastered on mcdonalds cups.

Even the most thrashed game made by Ubisoft, Watch Dogs(undeservably so, IMO) had been praised for its combat balance and proper combat mechanics

Your ignorance is disturbing

<< LINK REMOVED >> So you think standing in the middle of no where like a lamp in traditional FPS, not even being able to hide behind cover (like in real life) and as a result having a much more limited breadth of strategy is a good thing?

The only thing traditional shooters did was have people running around like overcharged androids, firing from the hip and dying every three seconds. There is a reason shooters have moved on from Half Life 1 and Unreal Tournament.

Traditional doesn't mean better and in the case of shooters there are still plenty of traditional shooters about, the rest of us will live in the present as opposed to twenty years in the past like you and enjoy the modern shooters.

@Dannystaples14 @dannydopamine8 Realism or not, cover based shooters suck imo. And the most popular shooters today don't have suction cup based cover mechanics

Dannystaples14, I remember when hopping around was the best way to not get hit in some FPS games. It looked so idiotic but everyone did it because it worked.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Why not? I'm not arguing, just wondering more about your logic. Seems like the suitability depends on the type of game. This is about urban combat, and is intended to be realistic, so reality seems like an appropriate choice
