The Division Is Ubisoft's Fastest-Selling Game

The exact sales numbers are not known at this time.

The Division has sold through more copies in its first 24 hours than any other game in Ubisoft's history. The company announced the news in a press release today, which said the multiplayer shooter also set Ubisoft digital sales records across its available platforms.

No Caption Provided

Although Ubisoft said The Division is its fastest-selling game ever, the company did not provide any further information on the exact number of copies sold or the sales records mentioned. We've reached out to Ubisoft for comment and will update this story as we receive more details.

Ubisoft Massive managing director David Polfeldt said the studio is "extremely happy" with The Division's launch. He also mentioned that it "represents Ubisoft at its best," saying it was developed by Massive and its associate studios "working at maximum capacity in highly-productive collaboration."

Ubisoft notes that--based on NPD numbers, GFK Chart Track, and internal estimates--it has produced three of the top four most successful new game launches in history--The Division, Watch Dogs, and Assassin's Creed stand alongside Destiny for that honor.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says this demonstrates the company's "unrivalled capacity" to create new franchises and "transform them into entertainment blockbusters."

"This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly it marks the start of millions of players' enduring engagement in The Division's game world, which we are confident they will love," Guillemot said.

If you're interested in more coverage on The Division, you can check out GameSpot's marathon live stream that features more than eight hours of gameplay. Good for Ubisoft and gamers alike. As a game programmer I can see the amount of hard work and dedication that went into this game. Not to mention the polish. SO much fun.

Destiny was also an ok FPS MMO but Bungie cut corners in so many departments (AI, detail, story, end game, character progression), The multiplayer component was really well done but you could tell they were holding back maps to sell people later on. Bungie found out with that game that they can give the gamer WAY less and they will still run out to buy a Bungie game.

Division is a game people should buy because it will show the developers that hard work and polish in games is what sells, not shafting the customer and DLC.

I must say I have been very impressed with how stable the game has been in the first couple of days. I realize that there will always be some level of issues, but I would have to say that The Division seems to be one of the better releases in the past couple of years. Especially considering that it requires the servers to be up in order to even play the game. I had a few "bounce" and kick-out issues in my first couple of hours of play Tuesday evening. But, I played most of the day yesterday without any problems at all. I didn't get booted once.

The gameplay is pretty good IMO as well...of course, we'll see if I get bored with it after some time. I'm kinda sorta feeling a Destiny vibe with it, except with much more content and things to do! :)

You know, like Ubi or hate them, the reason they have 3 of the top 4 new IP launches of all time is because they're one of the only big publishers pushing out new IP's. If only EA, Activision, and some of the rest had the balls to try something different, we'd all be swimming in new game IPs.

Stupid people just can't learn from the Watch_Dogs fiasco....

YOU who bought this crap at launch are the problem with this industry.

@metallinatus: I don't consider WD being a fiasco. I enjoyed it for what it was. With The Division I tried beta, so I knew what I was getting myself into. And lo and behold - it is actually better than I expected. Besides, gaming is one of my hobbies, and The Division was one of the most anticipated games of this decade. How could I not buy it?

@nocny007: It was a straight up LIE to the costumer, and for that, no one should be buying a Ubisoft game at launch again, no matter if the game turns out to be good or not, it's stupid to buy another Ubi game early after Watch_Dogs....

Well they did say before hand that they think due to beta feedback/exposure that this would be one of their biggest new IPs ... So not really a surprise .. I'm loving the Game so well done UBI .. you deserve the credit on this one !!

To be honest i liked it too, but the beta showed it's lacks and the fact that it favours group play, not to mention the season pass exclusive rewards...haven't bough it yet, on a sale it would be great, but it doesn't bring anything new as is. Good game though.

Tom Clancy's the Division: Brotherhood, coming early 2018

Tom Clancy's the Division: Black Flag, coming early 2019

Tom Clancy's the Division: L.A. Stories (for mobiles/handhelds), coming summer 2019

Even more preorders and day1 buys than ever before.

Not sure if its just console gamers thirsty for any games to play, or gamers in general becoming more retarded.

@ltjohnnyrico: if your retarded how would you know??? cause others tell you that you are??? or because you make dumbass statements... i think it sucks because there focus on so much team play... that why i stop playing destiny after a while and this game is more boring.. it has nothing new? plain weapons, same old story, plain everything... only simple players and little kids play this cause someone else told them too... i like this game really wanted to play then game...but this is not the game that showed us year ago.....and soon it will be a pay to win..

@bloodragegaming: It only leads you to the start of a mission/encounter, doesn't actually show you where/how to access the mission. Sometimes you have to run around looking for a way into/onto a building.

@ltjohnnyrico: As far as I heard, yes, they may have turned a corner, but to the worse (in some games at least imo), A game with Tom Clancy's name on it shouldn't have the "bullet sponging" phenomenon I certainly dislike. I mean, shouldn't you die from a head shot at least?

@handofkain: Well Siege is a tactical FPS and is more "Realistic" in terms of Headshots !!

But I am Lvl 16 in Division and patrol the streets with a Socom M1A and I get one hit kills for Headshots and it takes 2/3 to the body (Depending on enemy level of course) .. That's not a million miles away from Realism .. Also bare in mind this isn't a sim or shooter like Siege that is more of an RPG and thus has RPG elements .. so short answer is .. No .. in that case you shouldn't die from a headshot .. it would be determined by your weapon/amour rating and opponent/your respective levels/Rank like in many RPG's. Hope that clears it up !!

@ltjohnnyrico: Not to be rude, but I am talking specifically about the division. Why not rename it Borderlands?! cause that's what it looks like to me with that system. I still remember the first tom clancy's games (e.g., ghost recon) where a well placed shot to the leg crippled you. But, you're right, an RPG should play like one. But there shouldn't be sniper rifles in it neither, or what would be the point?

@handofkain: I actually quite like the Modern RPG setting .. Its not a total RPG but I do like the elements of it and It does feel like a Tom Clancy Game (If you read some of his books you get a feel for the story) .. Its not a RB6 or Ghost Recon its something new .. I like it, It doesn't need to be renamed as it's a new IP called The Division !! (Keep in mind Tom Clancy was an author who wrote a variety of different stories).

@asifah30: You're so wrong dude why would you compare one series that has the same engine that doesn't evolve at all, to a company that has different groups of developers with different concepts and engines? The Division is the most original game i've played lately especially when playing in the Dark Zone. You don't know shit honestly

You know what this means, right? Games like this (always online, no proper SP, etc), will dominate the gaming scene for the next couple of years, as everybody follows the money.

@Gomtor: they were dominating for years. As long as the 10-15 year old group stays as the dominant customer, these type of games will lead. Big game companies love that because it is much less effort for them. They don't need to worry on a coherent plot. They can sell the same game every year with a few fine tuning. Perfect market

@tanerb: "10-15 year old group stays as the dominant customer," .. 10-15 year old's don't tend to be dominant consumers as they don't have the disposable income of say someone in their 20's that has a Job but may not have the outgoings of someone a little older with more responsibility. I believe now the average Gamer age is mid thirties (Myself Included). I have no problem with being always online or with having MP/SP only Games .. as long as the experience is a good one that what matters !!
