Ubisoft released a statement today in which it boasted about its sales success so far in 2016.

Citing NPD and Gfk data, Ubisoft said August was the sixth month in a row that it held the "year-to-date sales lead" in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. In the US, Ubisoft's market share this year is 16 percent, while it's 14.9 percent in Europe and Australia and 13 percent in Canada, the company said.

Ubisoft has been able to achieve this success thanks in part to The Division, which remains the No. 1 best-selling game so far in 2016, the company said. Additionally, Rainbow Six Siege was in the top 10 for August game sales in the US. Meanwhile, Far Cry Primal is in the top 10 so far in 2016 for sales.

Not only is Ubisoft making money from games at launch, but the company pointed out that it's made an effort to create games that have "robust post-launch content, services, and support."

Finally, Ubisoft mentioned that Rainbow Six Siege has seen a 40 percent increase in active players since its Skull Rain update, the game's newest. Some high-profile upcoming Ubisoft games include Just Dance 2017 (October 25) and Watch Dogs 2 (November 15). Next year, Ubisoft will release Ghost Recon: Wildlands and South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

Ubisoft is also releasing two more paid expansions for The Division, Survival and Last Stand, though they have been delayed and are without release dates.

In other Ubisoft news, GameSpot recently interviewed CEO Yves Guillemot about a number of topics, including Vivendi's hostile takeover bid, reinventing the Assassin's Creed franchise, and more.

Additionally, Ubisoft today announced the formation of Ubisoft Publishing, a book-publishing division. Its first release will be a book called Assassin's Creed: Heresy, which tells a story involving Joan of Arc.
