The Division Is Being Developed By Four Different Ubisoft Studios

Former Rayman 2 and Assassin's Creed II developer Ubisoft Annecy is also working on the game.

Ubisoft has recruited another one of its studios to help develop the upcoming open-world third-person shooter The Division.

Ubisoft Annecy, which got its start working on Rayman 2 and previously worked on games like Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Assassin's Creed II's multiplayer mode, is now also working on the Division, Ubisoft has announced.

“The team in Annecy is delighted to be collaborating with Massive, Red Storm, and Reflections on Tom Clancy’s The Division,” Ubisoft Annecy Studio Manager Rebecka Coutaz said. “We are bringing our previous experience in multiplayer online games and this project is allowing us to build our technical knowledge in other areas and become experts on this incredible brand. The collaboration with the other studios is going very smoothly, and we’re working together to ensure we meet and exceed the high expectations players have for this new title.”

No Caption Provided

The Division is being helmed by Massive Entertainment. We already knew it was getting help from developer Red Storm, which previously worked on games like Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, and Reflections, which most recently worked on racing game The Crew.

The company didn't say what Ubisoft Annecy specific role will entail, but collaborating with the studio makes sense given The Division's emphasis on online multiplayer.

The Division launches this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, though a specific release date has not been announced.

@uxtull: it can only mean the reason it was changed to 2016 was either to some bugs or technical issues they couldnt solve fast enough to release on the announced date.................

which is derp, you really need 4 teams and so much time to debug one of your "killer app" releases?

I can't believe i was looking forward to The Division the most out of all the ps4 games

@hikarutakaheshi: Usually there is just one, or maybe two if they split campaign and multiplayer. IF there are a bunch of different developers, things turn into a mess.

It's similar to how movies are often times messes when they have a bunch of different writers working on it

My biggest concern is, that almost every Ubisoft game has had some really bad multiplayer. I'm affraid they will f this up badly.

I want to play it but I'm going to wait and see what kind of reviews/how buggy it is. Doesn't matter how many studios Ubisoft throws at some games they come out buggy *cough* AC III, AC UNITY*cough*

On the contrary, I do have faith in Massive Ent. Ryan Bernard & David Polfeldt are 2 of the brightest minds in the industry. Personally, I'm more worried about solo play due to the fact that this game is so heavily focused on co-op play. I would love 2 take my time & explore the quote/unquote "living breathing world" on my own from time 2 time. Remember; Ubisoft is only the publisher! With the experience Massive has with PC development, I'm hoping these guys get it right. I'm a console player personally & the community seems to be strong & vocal so I'm optimistic for this game!

I know that Ubisofts name is all I can hear (read) from you guys and how they gonna ruin the game, but Ubisoft is NOT Massive Entertainment. They may have bought them, they will publish the game and help in making it. But Massive had some great releases, Like Ground Control, World in Conflict and Far Cry 3. So I have to admit that I have faith in this team. They have a great vision and skills, and all that Ubi has to do is to not rush them with releasing The Division.

Ground Control and World In Conflict are in my top 5 RTSs of all time.

More people working on a project doesn't mean it's better. It still depends on the person in charge who determines what stays in and what doesn't. I'm sure some of the best ideas windup on the cutting floor because the higher-ups were too dumb to get it.

* Yawn* Am I really supposed to be impressed by that? Why is it so hard for big companies like Ubisoft to get that people are more impressed by the nuts and bolts of the actual gameplay features instead of saying a bunch of crap about its production?

I love how this and the new Assassin's Creed are on Gamespot's top ten upcoming games list, yet we know absolutely nothing about the actual gameplay, or game for that matter, except that they are Ubisoft games, and that Ubisoft games are broken crap. But they still manage to be on this top ten list; people are so stupid. These games will sell tremendously and the games will be terrible. Damn scrubs.

@tshipe: I think we know quite a lot about the game. It's a 3rd person open world sandbox shooter. There's going to be the usual trademark Ubi "unlock a tower/camp to unlock the map". There's going to be coop and single player missions. It's set in NY at Xmas. There's loads of clips and features on YouTube. Have you been living on a different planet? I dunno about all Ubi games being broken either. Far Cry 4 was really good.

@lil_ze76@tshipe: I haven't bothered looking but after this dumb article i made the assumption. I am sure it's the same old, same old. We don't even know Assassin's Creed new name yet (well maybe we do now) but its usually the number one anticipated game even after the last few releases in the franchise were garbage. I got Far Cry 4 for free with my Ps4 and I am glad I didn't pay for it because i hated it. That's just my opinion I realize many people liked it.

@lil_ze76@tshipe: Since you know so much please tell me whats so great about this game and why its highly anticipated besides fanboyism. What you said described just about any other third person game ever released. Actually I don't even care. You got me.

@tshipe@lil_ze76: Well I can tell you why it appeals to me personally. Obviously I can't speak for other people. I really like Tom Clancy games. I really enjoyed the Rainbow 6 and Splinter Cell franchises so if this is anything like those I think I'm going to really like it. I like the setting, I think the graphics look great, and I like the how the cover system seems to work. The MP aspect sounds really interesting. I like the idea of forming online clans and getting into territorial firefights with other clans. If we do get what we're being promised I think this will probably end up being one of my favourite games. Has nothing to do with "fanboyism". If I think a game looks good then I'm interested. If it turns out to be rubbish then life goes on. There'll be other games...

Is that a good enough explanation for you?
