The Division Exploit Lets You Deal Unlimited Damage

The Division's latest discovered exploit can let players do an incredibly high amount of damage.

The Division's Falcon Lost glitch lets you kill the APC without AI knowing you're there, but developer Massive says it's working on a fix for the exploit and will punish players who take advantage of it. Well, it looks like the developer has another on their hands, as players have discovered an exploit that lets them deal an incredibly high amount of damage.

YouTuber Simplified shows how you can pull it off in a video. The first thing you'll need to do is have a weapon with the Competent talent, which is supposed to increase weapon damage by only 13 percent for 10 seconds after using a skill. To utilize the exploit, you'll need to switch between that weapon and another at a rapid pace "for about 5-10 minutes." Once the damage output has been raised--Simplified's went from 87,997 to 877,370--all you have to do to activate it is aim a sticky bomb or first aid. You can see how to do it yourself in the video below.

Simplified goes on to demonstrate the change in damage, taking out enemies in one shot. The boost in damage is only tested on AI enemies, but if this exploit was used in the Dark Zone, it looks like it could take down other players fairly quickly, making for an unfair advantage in PVP encounters.

We've contacted Ubisoft for comment and will update this story as more information becomes available.

The Division was March's top-selling physical game in the US, but the multiplayer shooter has played host to many bugs, exploits, and issues since its launch. There's been a bug that involved craftable backpacks which locked players out of the game, an exploit that scored players fast Phoenix credits and loot, and an issue with update 1.1 that caused some characters to go missing.

Ubisoft has fixed some of these things and even offered compensation for the backpack bug; however, when the company said it would punish people for exploiting the Falcon Lost incursion glitch, players accused the developer of "deflecting blame."

Why players need to keep on cheating is beyond me. There is actually a more legit way to get a group of players doin above 1 million. That is for one player in the group to be a techy with smart cover. If that techy raises skill power to about 40k odd, and maxed what smart cover can do then the whole team will wreck the place, raising pulse to bring in the cryt hit chance. I've got a purple first wave m1A sniper doing 1.35 million dps on Cryts while my mate is buffing me with smart cover. Both my dps and his techy build go hand it hand and he can buff for the entire group.

I have the videos on my Xbox one of those Cryts to.

Players are just destroying this game more so than the developers, yeah the game needed more time, but just because it's there doesn't mean you have to cheat or exploit.

I get that it's a journalism thing, but it seems kind of ridiculous that Gamespot could be against exploits and warn that the publisher will punish you or whatever and 'then' go into great detail about how you can do it, complete with linked video.

Just seems kinda ridiculous, especially when you're supporting and covering the game so much.

@ECH71: Keep in mind, I post this after reading another article outlining how badly overgeared people are in the darkzone due to the number of people exploiting. Are they making this better or worse by giving us all the details?

Did they need to tell you exactly how it works and even include a video promoting the guy who discovered it? Not really. "Another exploit discovered in Falcon Lost, Ubisoft scrambling to fix it; is this really an A1 release?" Done. No details telling 'everyone' how to do it.

@Valsora: Gamespot has been weird like that lately... they even told me the moment the new Star Wars was available to pirate online lol. You'd think those kinds of articles would limit the number of companies who actually sponsor the website, I feel the same way about revealing detailed exploiting instructions (especially for MP games)... but I guess they don't care...?

Ehem. -Pushes glasses up noes-

Technically there is no concept of infinite in a bit-based system.

Still pretty amazing how bugged this game is, I dont even play it yet still hear about game breaking level glitches on a nearly bi-weekly basis.

@wretch1d: It doesnt take 5-10 minutes of switching to figure this out, it only takes that long if you were intending to put your dps that high. If you switch it back and forth once or twice (something you might accidentally do when selecting a gun and changing your mind) you would notice the higher increase (a 10% increase per switch) in damage the next time you used a skill. Once you did, you might try switching back and forth a few times to test it, and BAM. Glitch discovered.

In the grand scheme of things, this glitch is actually a far shallower means to discovery than a lot of glitches people find. Only thing that would make it harder to notice is a) your team might very likely have an extra damage buff that masks the extra damage from this glitch, b) you dont HAVE the perk, c) You might not actually be looking at the damage numbers themselves. d) it only lasts 10 seconds, so if dont look in that time (and mind you, most abilities people would open with is the scan, resulting in the 'spending' of the extra dps) you wont notice the increase.

@thomasn7: Is there one Ubisoft game as of late that isn't? Honestly, it seems most of the games from there are a glitch fest on day one and it take 6 months or more to iron out the issues. Take Unity for example, it was a mess of game when released, 6-8 months later, it was actually a pretty good game, at least I enjoyed it. Does it still have it's share of issues, sure, but it's nowhere near the same kind of game it was upon release. With that said, I suspect this game will be the same. I have actually played the Division and beat it before this latest crap patch came out. If you haven't bought it yet, I would wait until the bugs are fixed and they work on the HE drop rate and crafting AGAIN to fix the issues.

I'm glad I didn't buy this game when it first came out. I will get this eventually....when it's on sale. Hopefully by then, the problems will be fixed.

@punishergreen: I wouldn't even buy it on sale, unless they rip-out that online-only requirement for the non-DZ areas. Without any offline play, the game will expire (become 100% useless) when they shutdown their servers, and you know that date will be much closer by the time the game's on sale.

Cheating in a game has to be one of the dumbest things ever. Oh look, I found a way to completely ruin the game for myself really fast. Yay! I've been playing the game for a month and haven't had a single glitch or used any exploits and am really enjoying the game.

@bdrtfm: Not everyone enjoys grinding. Same goes for single-player games -- some are just too long because of repetitive grind-like missions.

Just because you enjoy them doesn't mean everyone else does.

I kept crying out load that the game was broken and urged everyone not to buy it but no one would listen to me, people are still amazed by 2013's E3 that they want to believe that this is everything that we hoped and was promised to us.

Even gamespot reviewer said he stopped playing that game and casually said that the reason was because he can't find any people to regularly play with, instead he should've just said " My review was heavily clouded and i really wanted to believe i had fun wasting 100 hours on a game that is broken at worst and boring at Best that delivers a narrative so bad it's only purpose is justifying slapping tom clancy's name and work on this excuse of a game "

@hussin005: Except its not that bad (I mean, outside of the bugs, this is getting ridiculous, even for Ubisoft). The game itself is quite enjoyable and mechanically sound. The main issue it has is that it has almost zero longevity after like 10 hours at max level. The shooting, map, etc are all decent if not high quality. The issues the game has are nothing related at all to what 2013 showed us, and the 2013 showed us nothing we dont currently have (exception of graphics, but we all saw that coming, and the tablet drone function noone really wanted anyway).

@KaoGen: Well i hate to disagree but well... i do, and i'll try to explain myself in 2 points.

Firstly, shooting at bullet-sponges men with hoodies that are looting so you can loot them is not enjoyable and/or mechanically sound.

I don't have problem with the rpg with guns setting, i knew what i was getting myself at and we all enjoyed fallout.

But it just comes to the point where the only way to introduce different enemy types and diversify the gameplay is to add more health bars and make them insanely more bullet spongy that just crack the game wide open and show you how boring and pointless it really is.

And don't get me started on how naive and stupid the story is presented, yes i know it's not meant to tell the story but the narrative is still there thus it can't be ignored.

Secondly, Having this much bugs and glitches in the final released game can't just be written off as oh it's just ubisoft being ubisoft and once you get past that you can enjoy the game.

This is game, especially an always online game like this is more like a service, you don't say that your internet provider or phone network are good (outside when they cut the service completely off of you).

I made a thread on their forums regarding a connection issue and it gathers 10,000 views in the first week, and it's not even fully fixed yet, hell it's not even fully recognized yet. they fixed the error we're getting and replaced it with another error !

The game was unplayable for 2 weeks just after playing 5 hours from it.

And if you'd argue that this usually happens in every game then i simply tell you No, It does not happen like this, and not for this long, the game is clearly broken from the core or the devs are just still drunk from celebration as they fix something and break another in it's stead soon after.

And if you're not getting any of these issues then i assure you that sooner or later you will encounter one or two of them.

In the end, the only thing that really made this game work is the huge marketing campaign and hype that was built around it, that every time we play the game we kid ourselves into actually believing that this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aHVdb2lkjo - is what we are currently playing.

@hussin005: Firstly: Yes, it is. Just because you dont enjoy it doesnt mean it isnt enjoyable. It just means you dont enjoy it. And by mechanically i meant the functions of the combat and shooting, which are mechanically sound (not technically, mechanically). It does the job, and it does the job well (regardless of whether its your type of game or not). (and if you quote the games logevity here, im going to hit you with a brick. i said MECHANICS, once again)

Second of all, i never said doesnt have technical issues. Not sure how thats relevant to my comment. (especially since i outright said the game has bugs)

@hussin005: It boggles my mind too but a lot of people seem to genuinely enjoy these mass repetition, bullet-sponge, random loot chasing kind of games... even if they're all kinds of messed up in other ways with glitches and exploits.

I'm sure the mass marketing and the ability to play with friends obscures a lot of the flaws, but at the core I still don't know what these kind of games are offering people... it's like all the bad parts of an MMO without any of the good as far as I can tell, The Division and Destiny are one and the same in that regard imo.

@nl_skipper: As opposed to what? The mass repetition, half second encounters you run into in a lot of other games? People enjoy these types of games because theres a significant (or SHOULD be, so The Division fails here) amount of progression and evident feeling of power as you get better and better gear. Working through a challenge and seeing the loot appear at the end as a reward. Its the same sort of thing as the difficulty of Dark Souls is meant to inspire, except via loot instead of simply the boss dying.

Its a very simple concept. While i understand why everyone doesnt enjoy it (some people prefer skill to be the most evident feeling of progression, not simply numbers. I do too, actually, but i dont mind a progression system for the sake of playing mindlessly) i dont get why people find it so hard to understand. Its really not that confusing in any way shape or form.

Yes, using a shooter as a stage for this sort of idea is hardly particularly ideal, but it can do the job if its done well enough.

I wouldn't really count this as a glitch when we're talking about the "Tom Clancy" brand, cause In truth this is how the division should have played out: one shot and either you or you enemy is dead. This poor excuse for an MMO has little to do with the brand, cause it can't even get its guns right

@princetom: You fucking serious? How it 'should' have played out? The Tom Clancy brand is about the theme and ideas, not the fucking gameplay, you dunce. How it SHOULD have played out is, (while im not going to say that The Divisions current state is in any way perfect,) however the devs envisioned for it. Dont fucking tell devs how THEIR games is supposed to be played, because they clearly had a different vision to you, and noone is to blame for your disappointment than yourself.

Thats as stupid as saying Rainbow Six vegas is shit because its not exactly like Ghost Recon.

@KaoGen: Unless you've been living under a rock for the last 18 years, you obviously know jack shit about the brand other then this game. Tom Clancy games are suppose to be realistic in terms of gameplay, if it isn't, then the game is considered a fail. you say it's stupid to draw comparison and that is true, however all of the brand games have the same theme of realism and immersion over arcade style gameplay. and of course good stories and themes. Rainbow six: you get shot a few times, it's game over and you are part of this swat-like.team of terrorist hunters Ghost recon: same deal, but on a more larger battlefield like scale and you are a soldier there more or less to do his job in battle. Splinter cell: one mistake and you're dead before you even know it and a theme about spies. hawx: it's a flight simulator, duh. Endwars: commanding forces not with mouse and keyboard, but with voice makes it all the more enjoyable and realistic at the same time. Now this game is just laughable, you're basically shooting BB guns at crazy hooligans over and over again with not a lot of tension or stress and the story is just half ass at best with questionable design choices. this is a weak game and many outlets and reviewers have stated at least one of the flaws I've mentioned, but if they didn't, then expect them to also give this game an 8 or a 9 for their score and that an obvious sign of bribery. If you still think I'm full of shit, then prove me wrong, otherwise STFU

@princetom: Except you are still full of shit. NO MATTER WHAT the previous experience is with Tom Clancy games, THE DIVISION IS A NEW IP.

Emphasis on NEW. Do you think people had the same reaction when Endwar was announced? Because its not what a Tom Clancy game 'should' be?

There is no 'should' be this way, or 'should' be that way. The game is designed with the ideas that the devs had for it. If youre honestly expecting one thing or another from a game based entirely upon the studio that makes it (or what name is tacked on it, seriously...) then you're downright foolish.

Otherwise by the same logic, Destiny is shit because its not Halo (which its not, its shit for other reasons).

Rainbow six allows a rather large number of hits actually, same with Ghost Recon, unless you turn the difficulty up.

Maybe if youd stop getting butthurt because you thought i said the game wasnt flawed or that most of your complaints arent valid, then youd be able to get over yourself long enough to get what im saying.

Prove you wrong my ass, i already did.

TOM CLANCY GAMES ARE TAGGED AS TOM CLANCY FOR SALES, NOT FOR ANYTHING TO DO WITH SIMILARITY. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL.
