The Division DLC Delayed, Ubisoft Acknowledges "Lingering Issues"

Ubisoft delays the launches of Survival and Last Stand.

The Division's upcoming expansions have been delayed, Ubisoft announced today.

Survival, the game's second add-on, is moving until a "later date this year," while the third expansion, Last Stand, will now come out in early 2017. Ubisoft announced these changes in a blog post.

Now Playing: GS News Update: The Division DLC Delayed

No Caption Provided

"This new schedule will not only enable us to strengthen the core experience before adding new content, but also continuously improve it by allowing for more production time to ensure the quality of future updates as well," the developer explained.

The Division's first expansion, Underground, came out in July. DLC for The Division is released first on Xbox One as part of a timed-exclusivity deal between Microsoft and Ubisoft. Survival was previously pegged to come out this summer, while Last Stand was expected this winter.

In its blog post, Ubisoft said it's been an "incredible" six months since The Division saw its record-breaking release in March. However, it has become clear that the overall Division experience has been "affected by lingering issues that have accumulated since release."

As a result of fan feedback and Ubisoft's own observations, the studio is adjusting its focus to instead make its priority "improving the core gameplay experience" instead of releasing new content.

To that end, Ubisoft is now working on a new update, 1.4, which will make a lot of fixes and improvements. As outlined in this Ubisoft blog post, the focus of 1.4 is on this points:

  • Fixing bugs, including those listed in our Known Issues as well as many other ones
  • Making loot drops more relevant to the player
  • Enemy difficulty and time to kill
  • Gear Sets and weapons balancing
  • Solo player experience
  • Dark Zone and PvP balancing
  • Quality of life additions based on community suggestions (such as weapon skins no longer taking inventory space)

Update 1.4 for The Division addresses the game's "most pressing issues," Ubisoft said. Overall, the developer explained that improving the game is an "ongoing effort" that starts with 1.4 and will likely continue with further updates in the future.

A full overview of the changes included with The Division's update 1.4 will come in a livestream event scheduled for September 13.

"We want to take this opportunity to thank you, our community, for being so openly passionate about the game," Ubisoft said. "Our passion is what unites us and allows us to build a better game together! We remain committed to delivering the best experience possible, and will constantly be looking for your feedback as we shape the future of The Division."

This game has been troubled from day one. But there's something about the game that keeps you coming back for more. I'm on it everyday and I probably play this more than any game in my collection. The DarkZone used to be fun until cheating PC gamers killed the DarkZone and now its a chaotic mess and you'd have to be insane to the point of stupidity to even enter the DZ.

I've said this before and I am saying it again. Ubisoft Massive should have made the DZ a two tier multiplayer environment. PvP and PvNCPs this would have made the game more playable and more enjoyable instead of being killed by a cheating PC Gamer who couldn't play a game without cheating if they were playing roulette.

I'm not saying that all PC Gamers are cheating. But I'd give an estimated guess that PC Ganers in the DarkZone is probably about 68%. And it would not surprise me at all if I was within 15 - 25% either side of the estimated 68%.

Getting steamrolled in the DZ by guys dropping down into lower brackets was enough for me to bail.

I got a good deal on the base game and purchased no DLC, so I'm good.

A completely PvE Dark Zone against some DZ8+ AI would rock.

Strengthen the core of the game? How long has this been out now, if the core isn't strong yet I don't think it's going to get there.

You can look at Steam charts and see where this game is going, in April they had 26k+ average players, it's been steadily dwindling and this month is down to 3k+. So yeah...

I like their approach with this game much more than Destiny. Division's DLC (the only one so far) just added more to the game whereas Destiny likes to simply replace. I can still run Division's first incursion and still get relevant gear. And there's less of a penalty in Division if you're a non-PVP'er, since nothing in the Dark Zone is exclusive. A balancing of the gear is in order, but Destiny will always be a bargain bin buy for me the way it's going.

The problem with The Division was Ubisofts slow ass response to glitchers. I mean why play and grind at all if you know the majority of players are just cheating their way to the best sets and weapons? They might have fixed it now but the damage was already done. I would've had faith if Ubisoft took a hard stance and reset players characters but nope....it's sad since The Division is a great coop game but many are disillusioned by cheaters who essentially ruined the game. How many freaking months before they fixed it? The first Incursion was already glitch-finished by a squad a few hours after release. Massive has a bunch of incompetent, lazy programmers who can't do proper quality control.

"...Lingering Issues..."? Hahahahahaa... Yeah OK. There goes that pot calling the Kettle names again. And those dwindling player numbers had nothing to do with Ubisoft stepping in and taking the reins from Massive? Of course not. TCTD is slowly turning into another Watchdogs, but way worse. I really hope things get back on track for them, but I think it's a "...too little, too late..." scenario.

I hope what they are saying is true and they are going to give an honest go at these. Seems they might be able to apply lessons learned by diablo 3, and if so I think I'd keep coming back. To olay for a long time. The cover mechanics are really fun and the atmosphere created by intense detail, gorgeous graphics and design and no loading screens is some of the best I've experienced. The whole quarrentined city concept is interesting and well explored too. I also enjoy the underground BUT (everyone I know has a big but) the loot just is not grabbing me and they designed the game so its suppossed to be the core driver of the gameplay loop.

I hope they can figure it out. The single player campaign was soooo fun, but short and the endgame has not found its legs yet. It feels like they are so close to a fantastic game.

And then "enemy difficulty and time to kill" is intriguing.

I "love" ubisoft, they think about drop meanings after game is out like 6 month, and it's MMO3 rdperson shooter that works around drops and bosses. Yep idiots.

Almost to the next big DLC and still fixing bugs? Then delayed? I cant wait to finally play this game when its completed and out of beta in summer of 2017. This game is actually very good with other players if it works right "Thank god for pre pre beta I was in".

Reading all the comments, and I must say I got fed up of the shotgun build in the darkzone for me it was killing it, (while yeah I agree lag issues and exploit issues r plauguing the game) so I tried to go back to destiny and guess what, the same issues r still in destiny PvP lag cheaters, connection issues, exploits,

Now nightfall rewards r still as bad as ever and we r at the end of year 2 so maybe we should see if ubi fix it first ,

Destiny first six months was awesome, after that started to decline crota was awfully Poe was a joke taken king was good the first month then went boring never once was a fix for la switching trials became a joke not skill based connection based ands it's still the same after nearly 2 years so we can say ubi r bad if in 2 years they still in the same position that they r in now

Oh, The Division is still a thing?

I can't say I really care that much, since the game was stressful as Hell. First the singleplayer experience was kind of lackluster (Since if you wanted the best stuff, you'd have to play with other people, and that isn't exactly that great for solo players. And no, just because the game encourages co-operative, doesn't mean it should be a mandatory thing to progress with.) and the Dark Zone being one of the few places where you can get somewhat high-tier gear (At the expense of getting some gray hair from the stress of being an easy target against a number of people).

Soo... No. No update is bringing me back, I am afraid.

Gimme that solo player experience baby!

I still enjoy the game but as a lone wolf guy, there is only so much i can do. If they open up opportunities for solo players ill go back and play some more.

@Alecmrhand: I agree with you. Not every game that is developed like this should force players to have to play pvp in order to gain the same gear and rewards as those in the DZ or play in groups. The one thing I would love to see if shortened time frames for the incursions. The last DLC ' Underground" some of those times were up to over an hour to complete and that is provided that no one drops out on you.

What I want to see happen is for Ubisoft to take this game and branch it out into other areas of NY, NJ.MD that have also been affected by the dirty money. Not all that money stayed in central NY. This would truly give us SOLO guys the fun we long to have again with this game.

I do miss playing but there just isnt anything new to entice me to want to come back as this even goes for Destiny. There just is nothing knew to do. The same bosses in the same locations with no change. IT is stale just the The Division has become and its ashame because the Division is a beautiful and intriguing game that I enjoyed playing the heck out of.

Ubi is full of it. 100% can guarantee you this delay is because they allocated resources used for this to projects that must ship for the holidays. And since most of the revenue has already been realized from the season pass, they put this on the back burner. No one plays his garbage game anymore anyway, but at least tell the truth. "Production values". What a joke. This entire game was a mess from the get go. Like Ubi gives a flying rip about quality assurance.

I can't believe how quickly interest in The Division dried up. It was so hyped and then no one was talking about it a couple of weeks after launch.

@jgui: I am with you there I really was looking forward for this gem to drop with everything they were showing I was convinced of its greatness, then beta hit and it hit me hard so hard I had to look away in distaste at how much they ripped content out of the game "Kinda like no man sky" < The new leader of taking essential content out of the game.

Underground is an expansion? You use a terminal to get some random generated boring missions and they call that expansion... And here i thought when i bought the division that the expansions will actually add more of the New york map and make the game bigger. Ubis*it at it's best.

Don't get me wrong, i liked the base game. Played alot but Underground "expansion" is boring af.

I stopped playing a long time ago; too frustrated by the experience. But I'm willing to see what they can do with the update. If it improves things I might get back into it and *gasp* maybe even consider the DLC options. If not, I guess I'll keep playing other games...

I don't see buying any UBISoft Season Passes again. This game, while entertaining, has failed to hold interest during the DLC. The maps and missions are good, but they have absolutely no coherent story and are rather monotonous after a while. Not to mention the loot you get in them is pretty much terrible, and I get something useful about 10% of the time, which makes it pretty terrible. Finally the grinding they have built into the mode is ridiculous, and their separation of the Underground and Main game is really jarring and frustrating.

I played The Division at launch but traded it in for Dark Souls 3 after about a week and a half. I think there is actually a good game hiding behind it's many flaws but the state it was in when I left just wasn't fun for me. Nevertheless, it's encouraging to see that the developers are taking fan feedback seriously and are at least trying to address some if the issues. Depending on what people are saying at the time, I might actually give it another shot once they release a definitive edition that includes all the DLC.
