The CW's Supernatural Ending After Season 15

Supernatural airs Thursdays on The CW.

It was bound to happen one day, but that doesn't make it any easier of a pill to swallow. The CW's Supernatural--which recently celebrated its 300th episode--will officially come to an end after the previously-announced 15th season, which will premiere in the fall of 2019.

The news was announced by stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins in a social media video, where they revealed the crew of the show has just been informed of the decision. "Though we're very, very excited about moving into our 15th season, it will be out last," Ackles said. "Fifteen years of a show that has changed my life, I know it's certainly changed these two guys' life. We wanted you to hear it from us that, though we're excited about next year, it will be the finale. The big grand finale of an institution."

Now Playing: The Biggest TV Shows To Watch In 2019

The final season will consist of 20 episodes, bringing Supernatural's run to an incredibly impressive 327 episodes. For some perspective, Supernatural is the only CW TV show that's older than the network itself. The series originally premiered on The WB.

"Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us, it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible," executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb said in a statement. "We'd like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared, and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve."

With Supernatural and Arrow coming to an end next season, that leaves The CW without their two longest-running shows as the network looks to the future. Whatever the case is with the future of the network, chances of a Supernatural spin-off aren't likely. The CW has tried more than once to expand the show's universe with no luck. Recently, The CW president Mark Pedowitz said at the TCA press tour, "If there was a spin-off to be had, I’d love to have it. That said, I've come to somewhat of a conclusion that the show is the two brothers."

"I've come to somewhat of a conclusion that the show is the two brothers.""
No you dolt, the show was great 'cause it was about hunting down and exterminating monsters.
Everytime they deviated from that formula, the show started to suffer.
Which is why it hasn't been very good the last several years... it was all drama about angels and blah blah blah.

Should have never stopped being the weekly monster show.

Me and my wife had tons of fun with this series till it was removed from Netflix. Most of it is just ludicrous of course, but that is what we wanted: An escape from real life. But 15 seasons? Wow. Maybe we'll need to catch up on all the bonkers stuff we missed. Really good show.

It seems like CW is going to do some house cleaning next year. Arrow, Supernatural are confirmed ending. Legends is probably ending.

@doa2169: That's a shame too, Legends was just starting to find it's stride. This season has been way way better than the others.

Let's be honest; this show should have ended with season 5 but good for them for getting 10 more seasons out of it.

To me it should've ended when he killed his brother that got the Devil in him ... it was a sad ending where he lost more than he gained. After that it just became meh to me.

Well, that's a shame, it was a good series (one of the few good that were on CW channel). True, some seasons were weaker than the others, but overall, it was a strong series in this kind of genre (only Original I think were better, up to the final season, which was a fiasco). But, everything must end sooner or later. At least it was not cancelled, and the show runners will have the time to actually end the series without any questions.

P.S. I think it was bound to happen, especially when Mark Sheppard left the series in 2017.

On one hand, as another commenter said, it's good to see an ending rather than have it cancelled like so many other shows, but I can't help but feel pretty sad about it, been watching it since it came out and it became one of my favourite TV shows.

No matter what people say this was always a show which you could sit and chill with and just watch and have fun without thinking much about anything, I'm bummed.

Damn. I’m bummed, for sure. I knew it had to happen one day. I just hoped I wouldn’t care about the show by that point.

At least they can rap up the series instead of it getting cancelled between seasons, where it'd end on some crazy cliffhanger involving someone being dead or an ancient evil being unleashed.

I know a lot of people stopped watching the show years ago but I still enjoyed it. I would have been happy if it ran for another 15 years. This is a sad day for me.
