Original story follows.

___________

Following an April Fools Day release date leak, Gearbox Software confirmed that Borderlands 3's official release date will be September 13. The loot-shooter will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC--the PC version will initially be an Epic exclusive. The game will eventually be available on other digital storefronts, but this won't be until April 2020. Borderlands 3 is also coming to Google Stadia when that launches.

Borderlands 3 introduces a host of new characters, including four new Vault Hunters: Moze the Gunner, Amara the Siren, FL4K the Beastmaster, and Zane the Operative, as well as the villainous Calypso Twins. Check out our feature detailing everything you need to know about the four playable characters and their distinct abilities; plus, get caught up on all the latest news about the game.

The game earned an 8/10 in GameSpot's Borderlands 3 review for its unique enemies and environments, variety of weapon builds and playstyles, and satisfying story conclusion. "Borderlands 3 has a few stumbling blocks when it comes to bosses, but these fights are overshadowed by the game's rewarding gunplay and over-the-top humor," wrote Jordan Ramée. "The game's character-driven narrative acts as a satisfying finale for the loot-shooter franchise, and the new mechanics and features--especially the reworked skill trees and weapon manufacturer effects--give you plenty of agency in how you want to play through it. If you've never been a fan of the franchise, it's unlikely Borderlands 3 does enough things differently to change your mind, as the game best excels at continuing what the series has always done: deliver a humorous tall tale of misfits looting and shooting their way to heroism."

When Borderlands 3 launches, there will be multiple versions of the game available to purchase on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In total, there will be four editions of Borderlands 3: Standard, Deluxe, Super Deluxe, and Diamond Loot Chest Collector's Edition. Each one has unique bonuses and extras available for those that are willing to drop the extra cash on them. Whether you're a Borderlands veteran or thinking about checking the series out for the first time, here's what you need to know about each version of Borderlands 3 so you can make an informed purchase.

@newbpwnr: Exactly why I never buy these so-called special editions. I always go standard and laugh at the suckers.

$250!!??

Wow! These collector’s editions are really getting out of hand. Seems like every game now has a collector’s version that’s in the quarter of a grand or higher price range. Funny thing is that there will be people who buy it. Us gamers, lol… we are a fun and odd bunch.

@videogameninja: Legit considering it. Kinda like the Super Deluxe, too, just for that Butt Stallion skin.

@PyreofKoL: I'm sure it will become available to purchase as additional DLC afterwards. Didn't Borderlands 2 offer the Mechromancer pack as a bonus and now that is available as separate DLC.

I would also expect these to be offered to the alternate platforms like Steam eventually so there is no reason to pre-order just for a cosmetic item.

@videogameninja: it’s only out of hand if we want it to be.

Basically, it’s for the collectors. Let them spend their money however they want.

I'll stick with the base game thanks. I prefer to earn my gear and XP not pay for it.
