The Best VR Deals Available (August 2020): PSVR Bundle, Oculus Quest Availability, And More

If you're looking to snag a PSVR headset for Iron Man VR or a PC VR headset for Half-Life: Alyx, then there are some great options in stock right now.

With the releases Half-Life: Alyx and Iron Man VR this year, you might be looking to invest in a VR device. If that's the case, you'll be happy to know that the biggest headsets are currently in stock at some retailers right now, though you may want to jump on the listings before they sell out. In the case of the Oculus Quest, you can sign up to be notified of when it comes back in stock, and it's been available on-and-off for a while now--it's currently in stock at Best Buy, Amazon and the Oculus Store, however.

Best VR headsets in stock right now

PlayStation VR Iron Man VR bundle

No Caption Provided

Best Buy currently has the PlayStation VR Iron Man bundle at its regular price of $350. It comes with everything you need for Iron Man VR, including the PSVR headset, a copy of the game, two Move controllers, and a PlayStation Camera. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find brand-new Move controllers, so if you're interested in playing Iron Man VR, then we recommend going with this bundle. Thankfully, Sony has also confirmed that the PSVR headset will be compatible with the next-gen PS5.

PlayStation Move motion controllers

Iron Man VR requires two PlayStation Move controllers, but unfortunately, it's difficult to find them in stock anywhere in the US. It's unclear if they'll be restocked before Iron Man VR's launch date, so if you want to snag a pair on their own, you may need to go with pre-owned or refurbished Move controllers. Right now, the best way to get one on short notice is unfortunately through third-party sellers on Amazon, though many of the listings are also used or refurbished.

Oculus Quest | 128GB for $500

No Caption Provided

The Oculus Quest is currently sold out at most retailers, but the 128 GB is currently available at Oculus, though order won't ship for a couple of weeks at the moment. The Oculus Quest can be enjoyed completely wire-free, thanks to its inside-out tracking and dedicated store. However, if you snag a high-quality USB-C cable, you can also plug it into your PC and play Half-Life: Alyx and other PC VR games--we recommend Anker's Powerline+ USB-C to USB 3.0 cable.

Valve Index | $999

New orders ship after 8 weeks

Valve Index

Though the game is compatible with a variety of VR devices, Half-Life: Alyx is designed with Valve's own headset, the Index, in mind. That makes it the best way to experience the game, assuming you have the money to spend on this top-of-the-line machine. If you already have the base stations (Vive headset owners should have them), you can save yourself some cash. If you absolutely have to play Alyx the way it's meant to be played, this is the way to do it.

I don’t want a giant douche-y headset that makes my head hurt after 15 minutes of wearing it. Make these things into sunglasses and I’ll buy.

When you deleted the whole convo after telling me this article is 5 years old and my toaster sends me articles, and called me a luddite when I explained that this tech doesn't exist, I thought maybe you had learned a valuable lesson, but no, here you are with the original comment again, clinging to this notion that they can magically cram all of this technology into a surface that is a few millimeters thick (and that it won't look douchey). The stuff you see in Mission Impossible isn't real.

Would like to see Valve collaborate with Oculus for their next VR hardware.

Index controllers are superior in terms of tech and features, but inferior to Oculus Touch controllers in terms of overall feel and build quality.

How good is the Samsung? It's 1/3 the cost of the Index. What am I going to lose with it?

I don't want to spend $1000 to play one game.

Looking forward to the next gen of VR headsets. The latest Vive one doesn’t seem as great as it originally sounded.

Soooooo....there apparently is only one headset deal that can play Half Life?

You guys only showed the Samsung...since the PSVR will not have the game at all. It's a Windows platform exclusive.

What the heck is with this article?

@thegreatiandi: Alyx itself is Windows exclusive.

@thegreatiandi: The PS Couldn't run Alyx is why it's not on it.

Truth is, I really want to play the new half life game but I can't justify paying $300-600$ on a VR headset or even n $800-$1200 if I was going for HTC Vive, for just one game. Only thing I hope for at this point Is that if Half life alyx is a huge success ( I think it will) this will make more Triple A developers make big games like that for VR which in turn will make me buy a VR headset

@jako998: It doesn't have to be just one game. There are a lot of good VR games and apps available at this point. imo Google Earth VR (free) is worth the price of a headset on its own.
