Colin Farrell plays The Penguin in director Matt Reeves' upcoming comic book movie, The Batman, but the character doesn't have a very big role in the movie in terms of screen time.

Farrell said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Collider) that he's in the movie for five or six scenes, amounting to about nine minutes of screen time.

"I'm only in it for five or six scenes, so I can't wait to see the film because it won't be ruined by my presence. Really, it's a freebie to me. I'll get a little bit uncomfortable for the f**king nine minutes I have, and then the rest of it, I cannot wait to see how he [Reeves] brought this world to life."

Farrell is unrecognizable in The Batman thanks to the impressive work of makeup artist Mike Marino, who Farrell called "an absolute and veritable genius." In addition to the makeup for his face, Farrell wore a body suit because he didn't want to put on weight again after he did that for a role in The North Water. "I was just like, 'f**k, this acting thing ain't this important,'" he said. "I know the top actors that go up and down, and God bless them, I wish them good health. But for me, I think The North Water is the last time I'll go up that much. So, we decided on a fat suit."

The Batman also features Robert Pattinson as Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle. Jeffrey Wright plays James Gordon and John Turturro plays Carmine Falcone.

After a delay, The Batman is now scheduled to come to theaters on March 4, 2022. In addition to the movie, a prequel Batman TV series is in the works for HBO Max.
