Stoic founder and technical director John Watson says porting the game gave them an opportunity to redesign The Banner Saga's controller experience.

"Porting the game certainly presented technical challenges that we needed to overcome," said Watson. "We have managed to merge the story and gameplay from Banner Saga with a refined controller interface to make it a very enjoyable console gaming experience."

The Banner Saga releases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 12.

Stoic is currently working on The Banner Saga 2, which is also slated for a 2016 release. The company has said now that it can release games on more platforms, thinking about what that means for the sequel is "really exciting."

The Banner Saga scored a 7 in GameSpot's review, which said its a beautiful game filled with interesting ideas and enjoyable battles, but its story gets entangled within its own winding web.
