That Xbox Game Pass Deal That Sounded Too Good To Be True Is Too Good To Be True Unless You Live In New Zealand

Gamers in New Zealand can get the Family & Friends membership for $40/month, but the offering is not set to launch in the US soon, it appears.

Recently, imagery containing the supposed price point for the Xbox Game Pass Family & Friends program emerged online, and people got excited about the perceived value. The offer lets up to five people share a subscription for $40/month, which sounds like a pretty sweet deal. And it is... if you live in New Zealand.

Reporter Tom Warren confirmed that the pricing is for New Zealand. Warren went on to say that the Xbox Game Pass Family & Friends program is "not launching imminently in the US" as some believed it might.

The Xbox Game Pass Family & Friends program is already available in Ireland and Colombia. Although it's available in some parts of the world already, plans can only be shared with people in the same region or country, so if you've got a friend in Ireland, Colombia, or New Zealand, you cannot share with them.

Microsoft, and other companies, are known to roll out new products, services, and subscription offerings in smaller markets before launching them widely around the world. If Game Pass Family & Friends is indeed coming to the US, Microsoft's June showcase could be a potential forum for its announcement, but this is just a guess.

Xbox Game Pass is one of the best deals in gaming. The monthly subscription grants access to a wide variety of new games each month, day-one releases for Xbox exclusives, and plenty of titles from the EA Play library. If the Activision Blizzard deal is approved, Microsoft also intends to add games such as Overwatch, Diablo, and Call of Duty to its library.

In other Xbox Game Pass news, Microsoft is no longer offering the sweet $1/month introductory rate. For more, check out GameSpot's feature interview on Xbox Game Pass below.
