The original survival horror series survives Uwe Boll movie adaptation; Atari announces new game for Sony's next console.

TOKYO--Back in 1992, Alone in the Dark was recognized as one of the first horror games to adopt a 3D engine. It wasn't too long before the series made its way to home consoles, and the game was released on various platforms up until 2001's Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, which would be its last installment for some time.

Now, after a four-year slumber (including the critically pummeled live-action, Uwe Boll-directed Alone in the Dark film), the dormant series has been awakened by the impending next-generation console war.

According to a press release by Sony Computer Entertainment, Atari is currently developing a new Alone in the Dark sequel for the PlayStation 3. While nostalgic fans are probably eager to learn more information on the game, no other details have been released at the current time.
