Terminator 6 is Still Happening, Schwarzenegger Claims

Arnold thinks he'll be back.

Despite the huge success of the first two Terminator movies, attempts to continue the franchise haven't been so successful. The latest reboot of the sci-fi action series was last summer's Terminator Genisys, but this proved a critical and commercial disappointment. Plans for a sequel next year were apparently abandoned when the film was removed from schedules back in January. However, star Arnold Schwarzenegger is confident that another movie will happen.

As reported by the Telegraph, Schwarzenegger was interviewed recently by Australian news show Weekend Today. When he was asked about whether he could expect to be seen in another Terminator movie, the Austrian star replied: "I am looking forward to it, absolutely."

While Paramount didn't officially cancel the movie, its removal from the release slate, plus the studio's silence on the matter, suggested that at the very least the future of the franchise was uncertain.

Terminator Genisys finished its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of $440 million, with only $90 million of this made in US cinemas. Despite early claims that the franchise was on hold, in October last year producer Dana Goldberg stated that it was still an "active property". She told The Wrap at the time: "[We will use] data and research to do a worldwide study and really talk to audiences about what they loved, and what maybe didn't work for them, so that the next step we take with the franchise is the right one."

James Cameron, the writer and director of the original 1984 film and its 1991 sequel, will regain control of the rights to the property in 2019.
